I contacted a few hotels in Edinburgh prior to booking as I was seeking a possibility of check in before 3pm. I know hotels cannot always guarantee this, but since I was travelling to attend the Royal Garden party I simply wanted to know there could be a possibility and/or a facility to allow me to change after a 2... Located just off Princes Street, this hotel has everything - indoor pool, Great rooms, Polite staff and central location to everything. Tram stop to airport is just round the corner and will take you direct to airport in 25mins for £4.50 one way. Hotel check in went really smoothly and we were given rooms that were already for us at... More

A group of us came to stay for a 21st. We had separate bookings which proved a bit difficult to keep on top of as I used late rooms.com. Something I won't do again. I would stay here again but use the hotel directly to book. We had a wonderful welcome from Gavin who is the concierge manager. What a... More

I had my graduation ball in the Roxburghe hotel on Wednesday evening therefore this review is based on large events rather than an over night stay. On arrival the first impressions of the hotel were great. We had access to an outdoor seating area which was useful for photographs and to meet with your friends. We were then offered a... More

We decided to spend a couple of nights in Edinburgh for our wedding anniversary. The Roxburghe looked well positioned so we booked a deluxe room. The room in the old part of the hotel was huge and beautifully maintained with great traditional features. There were lots of fluffy white towels and toiletries. Everything in the room was spotless. There was... More

I booked this hotel through a luxury hotel discount website for a short break for my mother and me. It is in a beautiful location and near shops and lovely restaurants. The exterior and main public areas are very impressive, but we felt the stairs and hallways were a little dated in places. The pool is in need of renovation,... More

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night while attending the Royal Garden Party. Booked well in advance and on the day the reservation had got lost later found registered against the wrong month. Not the stress you require when you have a strict timetable to work to. Booked dinner for ourselves and 2 guests. Something in my mind said that... More

First the good things about this hotel -- excellent location, just off the Princes Street; friendly staff; excellent breakfast with a wide variety, eggs, toast and waffles served hot on your table; comfortable and big family room (cant say anything about normal rooms); lot of restaurants and eating joints around the hotel. Now the negatives -- corridors, common areas like... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
