This is a tired hotel which is due to close at the end of Summer 2008 and I understand that it will become flats. Knowing that the hotel is closing makes it's condition understandable. The hotel is clean, bed good and room size fine, but our room (253) was very tired: paint peeling off window frame, stained bath, odd wallpaper,... more

We booked via a website, so rates were better than advertised. The drawback with this is that we had to pay 'up-front' for the 3 night stay, if not we would have left after the first night. The outside of the building looked impressive, a grand Edwardian house with large gardens. After checking in we went up to the 2nd... more

The rack rate for this Hotel is £115 and its way overpriced, this hotel apart from a nice looking old building has nothing to offer in the way of facillities Came here on business, arrived late due to flight delays, restaurant was closed and no room service is offered Rooms are ok size, but beds are uncomfortable, cheap quality. TV... more

I have stayed here a few times over the years on business and it has got worse and worse. The last time I stayed earlier 2007, I paid around £60 and it had gone up to £105 this time - they said because it was August and, I presumed because it was the festival. They had to move me into... more

We didn't even get as far as booking this Hotel. I had read the mixed reviews and looked at the rather impressive pictures I had seen and we decided to go along and see for ourselves. Didn't bode well that there was a funeral wake there when we arrived!! Asked if we could see one of the rooms - lovely... more

First impressions in the lobby: filthy sofas, the armrests have never been washed. Our room was tiny (but I actually don't mind that much). The springs in the bed's mattresses were creaking. A window pane had a crack in it that had been there a long time which you could tell from the Sellotape covering it. The radiator produced an... more

I secured a voucher via Ebay for a two night stay on a B & B basis. Decided to take my mum away for a break, and booked a twin room. Had read the online reviews before leaving, and was feeling anxious, as they were mostly rather negative. I am very pleased to report that our stay was delightful. On... more

Quite simply dreadful. Drove from Durham. Arrived too early to check-in, but left car in car park. Reception and receptionist was pleasant. Spent a magical day in Edinburgh, then returned to the hotel at 7pm to check-in. Only one room left and it was not the original room we had booked (this was obvious as the room number was crossed... more

My husband and I got married at the Ellersly in August 2006. I couldn't have asked for better service from the Ellersly staff - I truely expected something to go wrong (doesn't it always at weddings?!?) but hand on heart not one thing went other than according to plan. From the first day I visited they were offered an excellent... more

My friend and I recently stayed at Ellersly House (12/6-12/10) - the Hotel grounds are lovely and the lobby, lounge and bar area are nicely appointed. We ended up eating dinner in the bar area 3 of the 4 nights we were there just because the bartender Liz was so nice and engaging! Food there is great and reasonably priced.... more
