On reading some reviews, we were a little apprehensive, but when we arrived Friday morning at the hotel our room was ready for us, despite check-in not being until 2 p.m. The hotel's public areas are fine and the garden area is pleasant. The hotel is located about 3 miles out of the city, close to Murrayfield Stadium, but transport... more

We stayed here Easter weekend for two nights after being transferred from the hotel we initially chose as they were overbooked. This turned out to be a good thing!. The hotel is a bit run down and the paintwork needed doing but apart from that it was lovely. It had character. Our room, an executive suite, was huge and very... more

We travelled over from Ireland for the Scotland match last saturday. The hotel is rather rundown (patchy carpets, windows don't quite close, overheated rooms), but the staff really made an incredible effort to keep everybody happy -- even after the beer ran out in the bar -- and they more than made up for the building's shortcomings. more

My sister and I booked the Ellersly for my mums 70th birthday not having been here before or knowing anything about it. We spoke with Lindsay who was very helpful to us. We had a fabulous night, food was great and staff most polite and helpful. The bedrooms were adequate. We stayed for 3 nights and for nights 2 and... more

Found this place by chance after walking out of terrible place elsewhere and finding Ellersley House online and taking a chance. Explained our experience to the receptionist, a charming, effiecient lady called Lindsey and she was most sympathetic. I had booked two singles and a double on the phone and we were upgraded to two executive suites and a large... more

Wanted a cheap base from which to explore Edinburgh. This place was absolutely fine. It was a bit dated, and the rooms did need a bit of refurbishing really, but on the whole it was comfortable. The bathroom was pretty manky and my husband refused to use it! Tiles broken and grout really dirty. The staff were very nice, and... more

This is a tired hotel which is due to close at the end of Summer 2008 and I understand that it will become flats. Knowing that the hotel is closing makes it's condition understandable. The hotel is clean, bed good and room size fine, but our room (253) was very tired: paint peeling off window frame, stained bath, odd wallpaper,... more

We booked via a website, so rates were better than advertised. The drawback with this is that we had to pay 'up-front' for the 3 night stay, if not we would have left after the first night. The outside of the building looked impressive, a grand Edwardian house with large gardens. After checking in we went up to the 2nd... more

The rack rate for this Hotel is £115 and its way overpriced, this hotel apart from a nice looking old building has nothing to offer in the way of facillities Came here on business, arrived late due to flight delays, restaurant was closed and no room service is offered Rooms are ok size, but beds are uncomfortable, cheap quality. TV... more

I have stayed here a few times over the years on business and it has got worse and worse. The last time I stayed earlier 2007, I paid around £60 and it had gone up to £105 this time - they said because it was August and, I presumed because it was the festival. They had to move me into... more
