This was a jaunt with my mum and daughter to celebrate mum's 80th. We chose the hotel for proximity to the zoo to see the pandas, but I didn't book my 'panda viewing slot' early enough so that was a no-go. The hotel was good for access to Edinburgh, though. Didn't want to drive into the city as I did... More

This hotel was booked as a gift by a relative for my fiancé and I to enjoy a night at the fringe as part of my birthday. The room came at a cost of £160 and included breakfast as part of our stay - so far so good! The hotel is very pretty from the outside, but that's where it... More

Would like to give this 3 1/2 stars but unfortunately halves not available. Stayed there on Saturday 23rd August - room not ready when we arrived but lovely friendly receptionist directed us through to the bar where we were served promptly and had lovely fresh sandwiches and a glass of wine while we waited for the room to be ready.... Tattoo break with friends, stayed two nights. Staff were friendly and overworked, food ok but that was it. Shower curtain, door and disabled chair filthy, tap continuously dripping in basin, toilet seat hinge broken, disability alarm in bathroom continually beeping. Lamp in room didn't work, drawer handle missing, sash on window broken, stain on wall and a very dusty table... More

Very nice staff and Dinner and Breakfast good, but that is all that is good about this hotel! Booked two rooms and both were very shabby and the bathrooms where dirty and stained, rust round plug hole of bath and a green stain running from tap to bottom of bath. Grouting on tiles..black! Dirty glasses in bathroom also. Worst thing... More

was working for one night in Edinburgh and booked this place as it was close for my work after a long drive. Checked in with no problem, went up to my room, the upper corridor is stripped for refurbishment. No problem, I understand that this has to happen as a rolling programme. Got to my room, went it. Overwhelming smell... More

It's difficult to think of any more shabby and more smelly place that management is keen to sell as 'elegant'. This house was clearly once beautiful, but not least due to a lack of most basic maintenance is well beyond its prime. It must now be used as a money making machine for noone else but visitors in transit -... More

Friendly and hard working attentive staff largely redeem this hotel. They were excellent. Public areas fine, the restaurant provides very good standard of food in the evening, breakfast (self-service) was OK. The problem was that our room and bathroom were in need of serious refurbishment. Given that we stayed at the time of the Fringe the price was too high... More

Room was shabby, dirty stained bathroom, no pressure on shower, window frames and light shades had major build up of dust, beds creaky, carpet threadbare. On the plus side the night manager was very pleasant and breakfast was good, but for £200 for 1 night would expect much nicer room
