Excellent value for money and a short walk from the town centre. I was pleasantly surprised that the compact double wasn't quite as "compact" as I'd feared! The honesty bar was definitely a highlight for us-much cheaper than going to a bar and a very relaxing atmosphere. We didn't try out the breakfast, but they recommended some great cafes and... More

Thank you for the lovely review glad you loved everything & thank you for choosing an independent hotel not a chain . Next time( hopefully you liked what we did) please try our breakfast we only charge £1 for it if you book direct with the hotel whereas if you book with booking.com it costs £8.50 so worth coming direct.... The location of this hotel is ideal being a short walk from Haymarket Station where the Airport Express bus stops. The main city area is a short walk away and there is a regular bus service and a Tesco Express very close. The breakfasts were delicious and nicely cooked with plenty of choice. However, we were disappointed with our stay... More

I booked this hotel for 33 people. Monika who seemed to be in charge of Admin was extremely helpful. They put breakfast on early to fit in with our early start. The service was good and friendly. The hotel has a real homely feel. I would reccomend this hotel if you want to get away from the big brand budget... More

The hotel is great - the lobby & common rooms are large, comfortable & make you feel like you're a guest at a wealthy friends estate! The rooms were good, but ours was small. It was adequate but cramped. The shower was great & the bathroom had been recent renovated! Top notch!

Thank you for your review glad you enjoyed your stay , our rooms vary from compact double ( small one you had ) to Superior King there are 4 types in total each is £10 more depending on the size so if you like the largest room you pay more than the smallest . We think this is fair as... More

Great location close to City centre. Wonderful environment within the hotel, original tiles are wonderful. Staff very welcome although parking challenging. Can be free on road after 6pm otherwise £12 per day seems steep. Room was lovely although small but welcoming. Shower was great. Breakfast was filling and great variety but could be busy and breakfast room slightly small.

We booked this hotel last minute and discovered a good deal on the hotels website rather than a booking website. However booking over the phone was quite difficult as the receptionist wasn't great at English but all booked. When we arrived it was down a side street but the front of actual hotel was lovely when we went inside it... More

We had a one night stay at the Brooks and were easily able to walk to the attractions in Old Edinburgh. The location was good, staff friendly and the breakfast was quick and tasty. It is an older place, so do not expect large rooms or large hallways.

I chose this hotel based on other Trip Advisor reviews and I wasn't disappointed. It's within a 15/20 minute walk from the centre of Edinburgh so well located and plenty of good bars and restaurants within a 10 minute stroll of the hotel. The staff were lovely. The breakfast certainly hit the spot, what a choice, it was easy to... More

Staff were very welcoming and efficient. Room was compact but nicely decorated and not small. The bed was extremely comfortable but a bit on the small size (both short and narrow). Walkable distance to some nice pubs and restaurants; cash machine within 50m, Tesco express within 100m. We found it easily walkable to town. Would stay again.

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
