We stayed here as we had tickets to a show at the Playhouse, the location couldnt have been any better for us, literally a couple of minutes walk from the station and main shopping area and the Playhouse itself. The room was lovely and much better than expected, we stayed on the 6th floor so was nice and quiet until... More

My wife Jackie and I stayed here recently whilst on a visit to Edinburgh,it's proximity to Waverley Station and the Edinburgh Playhouse was the main reasons we chose The King James. We found our room very comfortable, and with most things you would need, the staff through out this hotel deserve a special mention, they are great, so pleasant and... More

The hotel is less than a five minute walk from Waverly station and is ideally situated for visiting the city. Our room had recently been redecorated and all facilities were in good order, although the taps to the basin had to be turned several times befor water flow. If I had any fault with the room it would be the... More

We attended the Scottish evening, but did not stay at the hotel. Whilst very entertaining and a lot of fun, you should be aware that the actual "evening of entertainment" was actually 62 minutes of entertainment. The first 90 minutes or so was spent eating the meal, which was reasonable but not exceptional. Any meal cooked for that many people... More

The greeting at reception is very welcoming, room excellent, breakfast enjoyable, well located for shopping, railway station, theaters and eating out. The Scottish Night held at this hotel is recommended.

The is much to please a weary traveler about the King James. First, the location is perfect for touring both the Royal Mile and the New City. Second, it is a clean and comfortable property where everything works as it should. Though our bathroom was on the small side, the towel warmer was appreciated after a day wandering in the... More

The bad points are 1) parking - clue, phone the hotel and ask about the overflow carpark. Do not use the overnight park and ride at Hermiston which athough free to park the bus costs £1.50 each way per person, and takes a tour of the less classy areas of the Edinburgh suburbs. 2) Ignore the outside of the hotel... My husband and I stayed here for two nights after completing a walking holiday. Despite arriving in walking boots and waterproof outer clothing we were greeted warmly by the reception staff and shown to our lovely room. The breakfast selection was excellent, the location wonderful and the service quick and efficient. We will definately stay here again.

I booked a twin room and was given a double, which was really embarassing because I had to sleep in the same bed with someone I explicitly wanted in another bed. This someone happened to be a very heavy snorer and the staff weren't of any help in finding a solution. (e.g. help me find another hotel) The staff are... More

I stayed here whilst on a stag do for one night. Rooms are functional but clean and comfortable. The room I stayed in had seen better days and needed some refurbishment wall paper hanging off the wall, terribly old carpet. The bathroom was in good condition but again could have done with some modernisation. I stayed in a room over... More
