I was in Edinburgh for one night, it was easy to get to from the airport on the tram, close to all links of transportation and close to all the shops/bars and tourist spots. Location ideal! Nice and clean, very friendly and breakfast was wonderful!!!

Stay was ok, clean and hygenic but rooms and interiors tired looking. Talking to the staff the hotel is scheduled for demolition so I assume investment has been cut. Shame for the staff who were great.

Not far to walk to any of Edinburgh's attractions. The staff were very helpful and the hotel was clean. The restaurant was lovely with the staff attentive. My room had great views of Edinburgh. I would recommend this hotel as a base for Edinburgh.

This hotel is in the centre of Edinburgh just off Princes Street. It is getting tired and the rooms could do with a re-furb - the window in my room didn't fit which made it extremely noisy and there is no air conditioning. The restaurant is poor - it wasn't busy and I had a 50 minute wait for a... More

This is a great little hotel in the heart of Edinburgh city center. The staff made me feel welcome the minute I arrived, jet lagged, and took great pains to make sure my needs were met. I enjoyed several meals there and all were better than average hotel food. The room was large, clean and very comfortable. I did not... More

Overpriced and old fashioned. The bar was good. The food was awful. Breakfast was repulsive. The room felt old and dirty. This hotel needs an update! However, the location of this hotel was excellent and taxis were readily available. Would recommend this hotel to someone who is not very fussy.

Spent three days. The hotel is tired, Rooms are typical for the UK (small but workable). Carpet threadbare. Rooms were clean and bed comfortable. Average bathroom amenities. No air-conditioning but windows open if you can put up with the street noise on warm night. Seems understaffed...no visible door or bell staff. Staff is friendly and responsive but may take a... Good breakfast, acceptable if slightly tired rooms (slow filling cistern, for example), decent location for compact city centre and the airport tram, helpful staff, and a fair all round bet. Find a room away from stag/hen party floor(s) for a bit more peace and quiet.

This is the second time I have stayed here and I liked it just as much as the first. Ideal location at the end of princess street, and ideal for an overnight stay if you are going to see a show. The breakfast is buffet with cooked and cold, cereal toast etc. only thing I didn't like was it wasn't... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
