Do not be completely put off by the rather grim appearance of this hotel. It is very conveniently situated for the station and all the sights in Edinburgh. Pretty standard, not really 4 star but clean and has all the things in the room which you would expect. Very helpful staff. would recommend for a short break.

We arrived a couple of hours before "check in" time. No problem at all to the wonderfully friendly Lady on reception. Pleasantly surprised with our room on the 4th floor....it was huge! as was the en-suite, and very clean indeed. Huge bed, good size tv, but no fridge or air con...these were the only minor minus points of our stay.... More

We were really impressed by the standard of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff. Food was excellent, and would definitely stay here again. Great location for exploring the city. We booked early, so got a great price which included breakfast.

We came for the Marathon over the weekend. Paid over £300 for the 2 nights. To say it is a 4* hotel it did not prove itself. The bathroom was dirty, the bedside tables were leaning off the wall, the place looked like it hadnt been painted in 15years. Very shabby which is a shame because the service was lovely... More

Stayed here during a business trip, found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. Room was very clean, breakfast was very tasty and included haggis which was great for an ex-pat like me. Would definitely stay again. Got a very good price for this hotel through booking.com.

We tayed at the King James Thistle for a long weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun) when we visited our son who is resident near Edinburgh. We chose it because of its closeness to Waverley Station (only 3/4 minutes via the Waverley Steps escalator). Out rail package put us on a late afternoon return so it was also convenient to leave our bags until... More

Had a nice stay at this hotel. Good rooms, neatly decorated, comfy beds, not so good views from the back of the hotel but the location makes up for it, Very good breakfast is available each morning on 2nd floor. Prices are reasonable for this location. Staff were very helpful at front desk and even to the point of immediate... More
