The room was of good size, good desk and wardrobe. But the bed was extremely hard and rough, while no mini bar in the room, bathroom was very old, tired and worn out. Overall the room was relatively quiet. Relatively good breakfast downstairs and friendly staff.

Great hotel, Great location, really nice staff - but they make you pay £12.99 PER DAY for internet access. Everything else was great about the hotel - but to make people pay £12.99 per day for internet access in this day and age (when it is pretty much free everywhere you go) is just annoying. And you have to go... More

Stayed 2 nights for the first time at this property and was impressed. Room was spacious and well appointed. Check in staff excellent-especially the young ladies who were very helpful to me (Kate?) also excellent lady from housekeeping who is from Barcelona? Easy walk to Haymarket Station and trams/buses. I found walking to Princess St etc. also very easy. Breakfast... More

Got early check in at around 10am and a free upgrade to a bigger and better room with no additional charge. Perfect location, just 2 minute walking to the haymarket station which take around 5 minutes (2 stops) to get to the town central. Quick and easy check in and check out process. The only thing was that the elevator... More

We stay in Edinburgh every few months, and have experienced many hotels in this beautiful city. The Hilton Grosvenor was not the worst, nor was it the best. Just a few minutes walk from Haymarket train station/tram stop, the hotel is in a great location. There are many bars and restaurants in the area and a 10-15 minute walk will... More

While this was not as close to the royal mile as we would have liked, once we got there, we were taken good care of. As a gold Hilton member i was given 2 free drinks at the bar so immediately got to try some great Scottish Whiskey and off to see the town. Full breakfast was nice also and... More

Firstly I must say the staff are great. Sadly I had the worst night, hardly slept. Ok the weather was bad but the windows were rattling, curtains moving in the draft, had to fold the duvet in half as so cold. Floor board in the corridor creaks when people walk past, sounds like someone knocks on the door. Avoid 330.... More

Staff was amazing. Room was nice. Breakfast was good. They made eggs to order plus a buffet of hot foods. It's a good location, 20 minute walk from the Scotland portrait museum and register. If you are a Hilton Gold member then you get a welcome drink when you arrive. Port or whisky. But really it's the staff that makes... More

Just returned from a lovely weekend and was delighted we chose to stay at the Hilton. Made to feel welcome from the minute we wlaked throught the front door until the minute we checked out. The hotel is ideally situated 10 minutes walk from city centre and all it's attractions. We had a room on the top floor, which was... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
