Stayed for one night, reception efficient, friendly and helpful. Room clean and spacious. Room was at the back so not a great view but was really quiet so had a really good sleep. Breakfast good and service was excellent. Would stay here again as very near the train station.

Very efficient check in. And ground floor OK too. However when you go upstairs it's like going back in time. The bathroom light switch in my room is 10 feet from the bathroom door. The bathroom itself needs a refurb. But the room is quite large and the hotel is in a good location.

Booked this for a recent work conference. Price was very reasonable (less than £100 a night) and was just as nice as any other Hilton I've stayed in. The staff were very welcoming and helpful with the conference and in general Breakfast in the morning was good too and very plentiful. Will definitely consider this again if looking for somewhere... When we arrived the check in staff were very helpful and gave good advice on parking as the hotel does not have a car park, the bar staff were very good and friendly. The breakfast is a buffet help yourself and of a high standard

Stayed over for one night for business, the hotel looks Ok if a little tired in places but the two girls on the front of house saved my bacon when my lap top died. They could not have been more helpful, thank you for diffusing what could have ended up a very stressful situation. I was in Edinburgh to educate... More

I got a really great deal for a room here - much cheaper than the Premier Inn across the road or other similar places. From a friendly welcome at reception and a (fairly) clean and comfortable room to a nice breakfast and swift checkout, everything pretty much met my expectations. The room was averagely clean and warm but slightly tired... More

Booked a room last minute to celebrate our anniversary of 16yrs. (Not often we have a babysitter). So we were looking forward to a night away. Albert Martin at reception check in was lovely. He even gave us a better room and a bottle of wine to celebrate which was a lovely touch and really appreciated. We were staying over... More

Stayed here for 2 nights. Don't mind older hotels and this one has obviously been upgraded from a turn of the century building. The original wooden floorboards are a little uneven and covered with carpet - and the boards squeak. I can clearly hear the people in the room adjoining us through the very thin walls - interesting conversation. The... More

I had one of the worst nights sleep I have ever had in this hotel. The walls are paper thin, and traffic from the street outside comes through so clearly I might as well have been standing right down there on the pavement. The bed is barely softer than the floor, and the decor is cheap and tired. This isn't... More

The public areas of this hotel and the friendly staff are the only bright points. Unfortunately you book a hotel for a comfortable place to spend the night and to relax. Try through jail to Edinburgh castle because that would be a step up. The beds are thin rows of coil springs wrapped in fabric, they are very loud and... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
