Problems with this establishment are as follows: (1) The hotel also operates a bar and rents a small hall for parties. On the night we were staying, the hall was rented out to celebrate someone turning 21 years old. The music and DJ were so loud, we requested our room location be moved to a quieter spot. The original room,... more

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights while on a coach tour of the U.K. Once you realize that you can't get something for nothing, it's not that bad. The location is the best asset and if you think that you go there only to sleep, you'll be in a better frame of mind. The lift is small, the... more

I spent two nights in the Learmonth on a business trip to Edinburgh. Don't listen to the other whingers on this (and other websites). It is a little bit tatty: my TV didn't work very well and neither did the alarm call. However... it's incredibly cheap, centrally located and full of character and polite, accommodating, friendly staff. A hearty breakfast... more

I have to state I did NOT book this hotel myself but endured it only because my husband's rugby buddy booked an "Away game" short break. We watched a match at Murrayfield, and did plenty of good shopping, went to the German Christmas markets and had a few bevvies............well we needed dutch courage to face going back to this place!... more

After booking at the Learmonth for a two night birthday break, we were horrified to then read the poor reviews on this hotel. We even considered changing the hotel due to the reviews. However, we had nothing to fear as having stayed for 2 nights on 11th and 12th February, we are pleased to report that the hotel is fine.... more

I stayed for one night in the Learmonth (also known as the Swallow Learmonth) in a single room mid-October 2006 and was really disappointed. The size of the room and ensuite was adequate, but the furnishings were very shabby and unacceptably dirty - the ensuite was so bad, I couldn't face using the shower and waited until I got safely... more

Starting to get shabby round the edges, but we did only pay £100 for 2 adults, 2 children, 3 nights, so it was great value. Good location, lovely Georgian terrace building, we were in the extension at the back though. Convenient for City Centre, on a very regular bus route, 15 - 20 minute walk to Prince's Street. more

My wife via a travel agent booked tickets for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang along with an overnight stay, When the paperwork arrived we discovered it was the Learmonth Hotel, i went onto their web site and all looked good for a cracking weekend. On checking in we got our key and up we went, the room looked adequate for a... more

We were a a bit concerned about this hotel after reading some of the reviews, but when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. This hotel may not be the ritz, but it was clean, staff were very friendly and extremely helpful. The room we were allocated was 'HUGE' and the bed was really comfortable. The decor in the room was... more
