On booking this hotel by telephone, I enquired about parking and was told that there was no general parking at the hotel, but that there were a small number of priority parking bays and I assumed that I would be able to drop my bags there – I was also told that there was a subsidised arrangement with a “nearby”... Never given a review on tripaviser before but in this case i have to inform you how disappointed we were with this 2star hotel tho its says 3star hotel. Room are small, and claustraphobic. Bathroom was dirthy. Dust on fan in bathroom, dryed blood on the bin lid!!! No matress protecter. No hot water in morning. Only luke warm. The... More

My partner and I arrived here in April 2014 for a four night stay. Try to get a room at the front of the hotel. The views are absolutely stunning, all of Old town and Edinburgh Castle are yours to admire. This hotel is centrally located within walking distance of Old town, the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, shops, train and... More

We stayed for 3 nights in a privilege room. The best thing was the amazing view of Princes Square Gardens and Edinburgh Castle! The room itself was good with a clean bathroom and all of the features that you would expect. We were a little disappointed that the privilege package didn't have everything that was advertised. However, the location and... More

Great location, very small but otherwise good room and bed, free wifi and good breakfast with fantastic view on Princes Gardens. The insulation of the room is not the best, you can hear other people moving around, banging doors and from my room even the elevator "talking".

Stayed one night. Lovely room and great view of castle and Princes Street. One complaint however. We tried to check in just after 2pm and were told come back between 2 and 4pm. Even though we were able to leave our bags in a locked room, it meant trudging around feeling hot and tired for a while. We travel a... More

You cannot fault the Mercure for being in one of the best spots in Edinburgh. But that is its selling point. The standard rooms are extremely cramped, to the point where the tea-making has to be under the table as there is no room elsewhere, and you either get a single bed with a small amount of moving space around... We stayed at this hotel as a couple in Jan 2014. Staff at check in were very professional and efficient. We requested a room looking out to princes st and the views were great. We had no problem with the room and did not find it tired, which I notice other people have mentioned. I would definitely stay here again,as the... More

The Mercure Edinburgh Princes Street (don't you hate it when it's spelled 'Princess'? It's two princes, not one princess) - anyway - this evidently used to be the finest hotel in Edinburgh, called the Mount Royal - the name is still etched on the outside doors. It is an old building and is starting to look a little tired, although... More
