my husband planned staying here for my birthday, very handy being on princess street, our room was on the 5th floor facing the front, what a great view of the castle, the room had all the amenities available, it was a very comfortable room, it was snowing too, and it was nice seeing it laying round the castle very picturesque,... A good mid priced hotel close to everything you will want to see in Edinburgh. In view of Edinburgh castle and a short walk to one of my favourite places, The Whisky Rooms. The tram from the airport stops outside and the 100 Airport Express bus terminates across the road. Try and go for a street facing upper level room... More

Stayed here with my wife after going to edinburgh for a day trip and decided to stay. Cannot fault the place. Very comfortable room bed really good and breakfast in the morning was plentiful and we'll cooked. Served buffet style so good for both the big eater and lighter eater. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel as the facilities are... More

Visited here with my husband allowed to leave our bags early in a room which was great. Very helpful check in was easy. Never had breakfast but was very busy. Very convenient if getting off at Waverly station as its straight across the road. Lots places to eat round about. Views directly to castle. Very quiet at night even being... More

If you want the best view of the town and Edinburgh Castle then Mercure Princes is theplace to stay. Perfect location as it is right in the heart of town. Moving about on foot is not a hassle. The reception staff are fast, elegant, friendly and effecient. Always happy to help. I loved the fact that even after heck out... More

Booked in with friendly staff Room was very disappointing (651), bathroom was tired. Shower was cold (in Feb!), wardrobe was a small cupboard. Crockery for tea in bar was something you would get at school or nhs, very clunky. Lovely view though and reasonable price tea/coffee Good location if you're shopping.

Friendly staff, nice surroundings, decent rooms, but the glazing is definitely lacking... hearing all noises from the street, the delivery trucks at 4am, next door's tv at 2am, and doors shutting at 6am.,..all due to bad glazing...

Stayed at the Mercure Princes Street as a group of three for four days. The location of this hotel would be hard to beat. From our room, and the restaurant, we had panoramic views over Princes Street gardens towards the old city and castle and, also, the Scott monument is just outside the hotel! The hotel is also ideal for... More

Hotel was fab. Booked with the virgin experience days and was able to extend a day without moving rooms. The location is central princess street a few minutes walk from the balmoral hotel and train station. It's roughly a ten minute walk across the gardens and up a pretty good hill to reach the castle / Royal mile. The hotel... More

I lunched here today and my friend and I ordered baked potatoes. There was one person at the server and one at the till. We were given our potatoes to proceed to the till - even to the touch the potatoes weren't particularly hot. The person on the till seemed to have trouble operating it as each person's payment seemed... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
