Had a lovely afternoon shopping with my friend and popped into the hotel bar for a quick drink to kill time as we had 30 minutes until our next bus. We asked for the drinks menu at the bar, only to be told rather rudely to look at the wine list on the board behind us. We had seen this... More

After having driven 1300 km from Edinburgh to the highlands and back to Edinburgh, the Mercure hotel on Princess street was a nice wrap up, being more conveniently located than the IBIS South Bridge where I had stayed when I arrived. Comfy room, nice bathroom, wholesome breakfast and super nice location for anything, shopping, exploring or taking the tram back... More

We had a nice stay in this motel, they offer a lovely breakfast, great location, clean room, comfortable bed, hot shower and great views of the city and castle from our room and the restaurant and bar... What more could you ask for! Also the staff were very pleasant and helpful which is also a big plus for me :)

Always stay at the Mercure when in Edinburgh City Centre. Only a few steps from Waverley Station, all the shops on your door step and magnificent views of the Castle, Princess Street Gardens, etc. from the lounge and many rooms.

Booked in for 1 night as my daughter had an open day at university and we wanted to do a recce of Edinburgh. When checking in the receptionist was extremely unhelpful and had quite an unfriendly attitude. We attempted to check in twice and were told that our room was not ready and we would have to wait. The place... More

When I made the reservation I knew this was a 3-star hotel. It's an old hotel which has been "modernized" at some point. But not recently. Overall, the hotel just appears very tired. You feel it the minute you enter the lobby. Quality of carpet, furnishings etc. similar to what you'd find in Best Western. Don't expect fine linens or... More

Had the same bad experience we had at the Mercure hotel in Chester. Rooms are old, worn and dirty. Definite lack of concern for the property by the staff and owners. Very unfriendly and unhelpful staff. Avoided the restaurant after getting ill at the Chester hotel restaurant. Lack of ventilation for the room as the windows were prevented from opening... More

Family of three stayed for two nights in August 2014. The location is outstanding close to the Scott Monument and Princes Street Gardens at Princes Street. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacy and clean. The breakfast was very good. I would surely recommend this hotel to friends.

I had a fine stay here. It's right across from the Sir Walter Scott Memorial downtown Edinburgh so in a very good location. My room was fine / clean. The only concern I had - it took me a few minutes to figure out my lock to my balcony. I was tempted to just leave it open (I was 8... More

The basics (for me): temperature; noise; bed; shower; breakfast; service. Temperature: major fail - stayed in August (for the fringe) and corridor air was hot, heavy and stale. Worse still, inside the room was exactly the same if not worse. Not helped by "Towel radiator" batting out volcanic heat with no means of control. Don't bother packing any nightwear or... More
