Firstly the location of the hotel is fantastic, right on princess street with excellent access to the train station and perfectly positioned for exploring. Unfortunately many of the hotel rooms are in poor condition, with vinyl coming away in the bath room and general need of a refresh. Cleanliness in our room was poor, there was a blueberry left in... The Good: well located for sightseeing, shops and eating and for the tram shuttle to the airport, staff all friendly, room and breakfast adequate The not so good: rooms not facing the castle have no view at all, decor is a little tired, not too bad in September but lack of air-conditioning could be a problem when it's hotter (... We enjoyed our stay at the Mercure Hotel in Central Edinburgh. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the front desk and restaurant staff were excellent. The hotel is close to many restaurants, shoppes and main tourist attractions on the Golden Mall. We would stay here again but would request a room away from Princes Street we found it to... More

We stayed for three nights. Loved the location right on Princes Street. Check in was quick and efficient and reception staff were friendly and informative. Loved the security up to the rooms. Using a room card to get beyond the first floor in the lift made it feel very safe. Had asked for oxygen to be delivered by the NHS... More

I really enjoyed my stay here. I stayed in a twin room which was a little on the small side but it was enough to sleep. Everything was clean and comfortable. My favourite part was the breakfast. Wide Varity of fresh food with amazing views over the city. On a sunny day you could see Edinburgh Castle. Shall be staying... More

This hotel is conveiniently located on Princes street with everything it has to offer. This is about the only positive thing I can't think of. The room seriously needs to be refurbished. The bathroom looks like it has been screaming for upgrade the last 30 years. Noise from the a/c on the neighbouring buildings was immense, it even managed to... More

Very good location but not worth the filthy room, cramped quarters, lack of elevators and bad food. Very uncomfortable beds that rolled around. Sometimes tv worked and sometimes it didnt. Good views of old town and castle. I would stay on this street again, but different hotel.

We have just returned from 4 nights at the Mercure.its location on Princes St is fantastic, so central for exploring Edinburgh and the shops ! We paid extra for a castle view room and had a lovely room with a balcony and stunning views of the castle and the Scott Monument. The staff could not have friendlier. Other reviewers complain...
