Very impressed from the moment of arrival, the reception staff were really helpful as were all the other staff we encountered throughout our stay. Our room was clean, spacious and well equipped, with a great view out to Carlton Hill. The free wifi was a bonus too. There was a great choice at breakfast, all well cooked and tasty. The... More

This hotel is very grand, and ideal for a romantic city break. Our room was massive with a huge bathroom. Tv was huge too! In room facilities were spot on and bed was very comfortable. We ordered breakfast to be delivered every morning, which they put in a hatch that you open from the room, you didn't have to see... More

The staff in the hotel are superb in every discipline. I would give the staff 5 stars. However, the rooms do not meet the same standard. The rooms are very standard and may be a little small. There also appears to be many moths in the room! The pool area is very dark and needs brightening up. I expected the... More

I have stayed at the Scotsman many times before but never have I been this disappointed. 1. Concierge was helpful in recommending and making a dinner reservation but he obviously forgot to ring me when the taxi came or the taxi never came. So I had to venture out to find another restaurant on my own. 2. It was a... More

Perfectly located in old town city center. Near train, royal mile, Edinburgh castle. Great service, charming facilities. On a summer day with the windows open the sound of bagpipes can be heard. We had a directors suite, which is 2-stories. Small sitting room on the first floor and huge bedroom on second floor with canopy bed and luxury bath. Free... More

Overall a good stay in Edinburgh at the Scotsman, but with a few caveats considering the 5 Star Designation. First the positives. The Concierge staff was top notch!!! Barry, Barry, and Jorge were outstanding. There were extremely helpful, knowledgeable, and represented the hotel in a very positive manner. The restaurant was also great! We thoroughly enjoyed the staff and the... More

I was very lucky get a room in this splendid hotel. A warm welcome with easy check in and escorted to the room. I was pleasantly surprised as the room I was given far exceeded my expectations. Immaculately clean, a king size bed, well stocked bar clearly priced. We asked about restaurants as we were celebrating our anniversary. Given a... More

This hotel is a restoration of former offices of the Scotsman newspaper and is about as different from a chain hotel as you can get. It was my 60th birthday and they gave us a fantastic room on almost the top floor. The room was not huge but had an alcove up some stairs that led to a tower with... More

Booked the hotels best room and on check in was told that the room was damaged by fire and they they had given us a room that was better (Not true) and a free bottle of champagne (turned out to be prosecco). They also said they gave us a discount on the room (also not true). This was obviously very... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Scotsman Hotel, resides within the former Scotsman Newspaper building. Originally built in 1905, this majestic building was designed to dominate the Edinburgh skyline and features incredible views of the city´s most famous landmarks. In 2001 the building was transformed into The Scotsman Hotel with careful attention towards preserving the magnificent Italian marble staircase, stunning oak panelling, imposing marble pillars and ornate ceilings.Originally the reception room of the newspaper, our North Bridge Bar and Brasserie features the original oak panelling, a hand carved wooden balcony and imposing marble pillars. The seating area is split into two levels with the balcony offering quieter, intimate seating, with a birds-eye-view below to the buzzing main restaurant and cocktail bar.The newspaper held its giant printing presses in the lower ground floor. The press room now houses our Scotsman Health Club and Spa with a vast state of the art gym. Popular with locals and hotel guests alike. Facilities include a steel swimming pool, steam and sauna, tropicarium, 60-station gym, spa treatment rooms and a relaxation suite. With no two alike, our 69 rooms and suites each have their own quirky features including curved corner window bays with breathtaking views and marble bathrooms and as a guest at The luxury 5 star Scotsman you will enjoy free Wi-Fi access and a complimentary Scotsman Newspaper. ... more   less
