Very disappointing stay at the end of July. We arrived late after a delayed flight....the room was incredibly hot and no effort had been made to cool it...even though we had called ahead to say we would arrive after midnight. Next day after a terrible nights sleep we found a fan in a cupboard. We booked a room for three... More

We were excited about staying in Edinburgh and in particular the Scotsman Hotel as it looked fantastic on the website and cost a lot more than we were normally paying but happy to pay if it delivered. This lovely old building used to house a newspaper and resembled an old castle. We could accept that the "parking available "advertised wasn't... More

We stayed here for four nights in July and had a fantastic time, and excellent service. I'd like to thank Gillian, Ivor, and Barry in particular for their help and attention (and advice on the best Indian place nearby). We stayed in room 304, and I want to thank Gillian for getting us in there (I had messed up our... More

We were a party of 6, taking my mother in law out for her birthday. I was disappointed to be taken to a room at the back of the hotel, and would have preferred to be seated in the brasserie at the front. Portions were generous, and we were invited to try several different teas. Service was fine, although I... More

Fantastic central location! Ivor the porter and his tartan trousers will stay with me forever lovely attentive guy, breakfast choice was great including continental, Scottish or even eggs Benedict, the room was huge with rooftop views of the royal mike, comfortable and homely, we took advantage of the pool, steam room and jacuzzi one evening and it was soooo peaceful... We have always wanted to stay at The Scotsman - now I'm not sure why. The hallways and carpets were shabby, room was ordinary and fitted with badly-made built-ins. You would think that a luxury hotel would merit a step up from instant coffee in the room - not so. I must say that the bed was comfortable; view of... More

This was one of the most interesting hotels I've stayed in. We had booked an Editor's room and our room was a 2 story loft. It also had 1.5 baths which was nice with a seperate sitting area with TV on the main floor and the bed and full bath upstairs with another small sitting area. The bathrooms were both... More

This has to be one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The room was excellent, with a great view over Princes Street, and the Balmoral Hotel. The bed was so soft and comfortable, its how I imagined it would feel if you could lie on a cloud. All the food we had was just amazing. The staff... More

The hotel is conveniently located just a few metres from the train station and the Royal Mile, within easy walking distance to and from all major tourist attractions (if you like and want to do so). Our room was really big, quiet, clean, nicely decorated and comfortable, with a lovely view to Market St, North Bridge and Carlton Hill in... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Scotsman Hotel, resides within the former Scotsman Newspaper building. Originally built in 1905, this majestic building was designed to dominate the Edinburgh skyline and features incredible views of the city´s most famous landmarks. In 2001 the building was transformed into The Scotsman Hotel with careful attention towards preserving the magnificent Italian marble staircase, stunning oak panelling, imposing marble pillars and ornate ceilings.Originally the reception room of the newspaper, our North Bridge Bar and Brasserie features the original oak panelling, a hand carved wooden balcony and imposing marble pillars. The seating area is split into two levels with the balcony offering quieter, intimate seating, with a birds-eye-view below to the buzzing main restaurant and cocktail bar.The newspaper held its giant printing presses in the lower ground floor. The press room now houses our Scotsman Health Club and Spa with a vast state of the art gym. Popular with locals and hotel guests alike. Facilities include a steel swimming pool, steam and sauna, tropicarium, 60-station gym, spa treatment rooms and a relaxation suite. With no two alike, our 69 rooms and suites each have their own quirky features including curved corner window bays with breathtaking views and marble bathrooms and as a guest at The luxury 5 star Scotsman you will enjoy free Wi-Fi access and a complimentary Scotsman Newspaper. ... more   less
