We couldn't decide between this hotel or The Balmoral! The hotels are opposite each other separated by the North Bridge and the huge railway station. Unassuming on the outside, the Scotsman has some interesting rooms. I stayed in one of the suites. My first impression was a rather pokey room with not much light. Then, as I explored I realised it was much larger than I thought. A huge bathroom (with sauna) and a side sitting-room made for an impressive space. Not without it's faults... more

I've previously stayed at the nearby Balmoral but had always liked the sound of The Scotsman but thought it just too expensive. However, I took advantage of a "three nights for the price of two" deal to visit family and friends in the city. What a disappointment! Promised a lot , delivered a little. Staff good , rooms above average decor Rooms conditions below average , adjacent to a very noisy road ( all night ) and a main rail station.
