We had a couple days in Edinburgh to re-live my old student days and visit some old haunts. I'd always loved the Scotsman building so was intrigued by how it would look as a hotel - it was stunning. The hotel staff were first rate, very attentive, friendly and professional. The room that we were given had an outstanding view... more

Stayed here for a 3-night break. On arrival, found staff were very helpful. Our deluxe room was of a rather strange shape, although it had all the things I expected it to have. The bathroom was nice, although my biggest complaint was that the toiletries were never replenished during our stay. By the third day we had completely run out... more

Room was very spacious - deluxe -given location. Nice touches were mug for tea making, nice toiletries & plenty of wardrobe space. Strange musty smell in the wardrobe even though it was immaculate and lighting was quite dingy for doing make up in the room. Excellent made to order breakfast and the brasserie was also v good although a little... more

Spent 3 nights at this hotel this week. Hotel is housed in the former offices of the Scotsman newspaper and accordingly the rooms have names like the editor, publisher. We had 2 rooms and were very pleased with the condition of the rooms, size, staff etc. If someone is looking for a box or rectangular room, this is not for... more

The location of The Scotsman is perfect, it couldn't be better next to both the old and the new town, Waverley station, airport coaches and Edinburgh Castle. As a first time visitor to Edinburgh it was great to receive upcoming emails to my visit with the hotel's tips about the town. However - they missed one big thing! We arrived... more

We couldn't decide between this hotel or The Balmoral! The hotels are opposite each other separated by the North Bridge and the huge railway station. Reception was lovely and old fashioned, roaring fire, cosy sofas, friendly staff. We'd booked a lovely large room (high up) as it was for a celebration. Wonderful view over the bridge, town and Calton Hill.... more

Unassuming on the outside, the Scotsman has some interesting rooms. I stayed in one of the suites. My first impression was a rather pokey room with not much light. Then, as I explored I realised it was much larger than I thought. A huge bathroom (with sauna) and a side sitting-room made for an impressive space. Not without it's faults... more

just returned from a two night stay at the Scotsman. The staff are fantastic! Indeed we found all of Edinburgh to be extremely welcoming and helpful. We were in the capital to watch the Heineken Cup final - unfortunately we lost! However, this did not detract from a lovely break. the room at the hotel was lovely and spacious with... more

I've previously stayed at the nearby Balmoral but had always liked the sound of The Scotsman but thought it just too expensive. However, I took advantage of a "three nights for the price of two" deal to visit family and friends in the city. It's a lovely quirky building, the staff are attentive, the food is good (breakfast and dinner)... more

What a disappointment! Promised a lot , delivered a little. Staff good , rooms above average decor Rooms conditions below average , adjacent to a very noisy road ( all night ) and a main rail station. No air conditioning – cannot open the windows due to the noise and room very hot due to Flat screen TVs and DVDs... more
