Ours was just a one night stay as we celebrated my wife’s birthday with a meal in the all- vegetarian restaurant, David Bann, 10 minutes walk from the Apex City. The hotel’s location is one of its major strengths being in the historic Grassmarket and within easy walking distance of many of the city’s major attractions, notably Edinburgh Castle. Indeed... A modern hotel situated right in the middle of old town and at a walking distance to many of the city's sights and pubs. The castle and the history of Edinburgh is right at your front hoteldoor. The hop on hop off bus has a stop also right at the doorsteps.

There is nothing negative to be said. From holding our extra bags to a great latte, our stay was excellent. Location is the best. We even got a glimpse of the castle from our room. Staff is helpful and very professional. Would return in a heart beat.

Went as an extended family and the hotel was very accommodating making sure that we got rooms next to each other. Rooms were very modern and the bathroom was better than we expected. We had a lovely view from our rooms of the castle and there are loads of good places to eat in the area. The locals are very... More

I've now been to the Apex City on two occasions and I cannot fault it. Friendly staff who remember your name, an excellent location on Grassmarket and a very smart new restaurant/bar on the ground floor. The rooms are excellent too. Nothing to over the top, but very comfortable and nicely decorated. The bathroom is also pretty decent. It's a... More

This is a useful hotel in a good location with convenient access walking to most sights. It is on a quiet road and they are many restaurants in easy distance. The rooms are basic but comfortable although a little tired in places. Very good shower but rather soft bed. The breakfast was slow service but tasty. Very friendly helpful reception... More

Friendly, knowledgable, professional staff, a lovely room in a fabulous location made for wonderful April visit. Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Mile and the National Museum were all within walking distance. There were lots of restaurant and pub choices across the street or within a short walk. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat!

We stayed here for one night before heading off to London The hotel location is perfect for Princess street and the station, the hotel is contemporary and clean the rooms are quite small and the rear facing rooms have no outlook whatsoever apart from the air-conditioning ducts. We did not have breakfast so no comments there, check in and out... More

Dear Ian Unfortunately I think you may have posted your review against the wrong hotel as we are not situated particularly close to Princess Street and your description does not sound like this hotel? We do have a sister hotel which may have caused the confusion. If I am wrong and you did stay at this hotel please let me... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
