We stayed at the Dunstane as we were visiting Edinburgh for Scotland v England rugby match and to celebrate my fathers 70th ! Overall the hotel was very pleasant, the staff were lovely, very helpful and very polite. Our room, albeit small, with a small bed was very nicely decorated and clean and very presentable. The room was ideal for... More

loved this hotel and will stay the next time we are in Edinburgh. We did not stay in the main hotel but the town house rooms over the road which were lovely. Staff were very good and the breakfast was just what was needed.

This hotel is a little out of town- about a 15-20 minute walk, but it's not an unpleasant walk, and there are plenty of bars and food places on the way into town. There's a bus stop right outside, or a taxi costs around £6 to the very centre. The hotel itself is very clean, well maintained and the staff... More

Magnificent from the outside. Fairytale like. Service inside was impeccable from every single person we encountered. Free upgrade to deluxe room. Breakfast was tasty. Small selection but tasty. 20/25 min walk to the castle but it's a lovely walk in. Bus stops right outside both for general transport and aircoach bus transport. The Luas/tram/metro is also a 5 min walk... More

Hi there Thank you so much for the mostly lovely review of the Dunstane I am so pleased you found all of our extra touches so special and you were comfortable. I booked this hotel as a Christmas present for my husband and booked our overnight for the end of January as a very rare child free break. After searching for 'the right' hotel for our stay in Edinburgh, the great reviews and photos of this hotel seemed to tick all the boxes. We arrived early so we're really happy when... More

Just returned from a short stay at the dunstane hotel and what a surprise. It's a gem. We arrived early so I requested a early check in which they were able to accomdate.check in is normally 3pm so when we were able to check in at 9am it really shows that the smaller hotels really know what excellent customer care... Hello Janet D Thank you very much for that wonderful review. I am so pleased we were able to accommodate your early check in - you are correct, smaller hotels really do listen to what guests are asking for and try their best when a larger chain might miss that. And an extra breakfast can't be a bad thing! I... More

I am so pleased that we saw a deal for this hotel on Itison and decided to give it a try. This hotel is gorgeous, beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean with such friendly helpful staff. Our twin room was large with a modern ensuite shower room which had Molton and Brown toiletries, cotton wool, cotton buds and fluffy towels. There were... More

We stayed for two nights whilst visiting our son for "Operation Domestos". We chose this Hotel because it was 5 minutes from his flat and they have car parking. We were not disappointed. Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
