I was booking a 13 night business trip through our travel department at this hotel. I have been to EDI several times before and during Festival so I knew getting a hotel would be difficult. I did not expect that they would take such blatant advantage. We got a quote for GBP 2957 and within an hour booked the hotel.... More

The Dunstane is one of those former grand private residences converted to hotels. It has a small lovely garden in front and the building itself looks grand. It is a rarity in Scotland in the sense that the main door leading to the front parlor/reception can be opened at the touch of a button. In almost all the other hotels,... More

We arrived late on a Friday night after air travel problems. The bus stop from the airport was right outside the hotel, which was great at 11 pm. The room was small, but nice and the bathroom was modern. Our room was across the street from the main hotel, which was a bit odd and a little bit annoying to... More

Looks like a large old home from the outside. Has a special charm and pleasant staff. Room and bath were comfortable and clean. Easy laid back atmosphere! good bar and restaurant. I would highly recommend this hotel!

We stayed here for the SRU Club Awards dinner & we got a free upgrade and the room was amazing! Such a shame we only slept in it for one night. Molten Brown toiletries in bathroom. Staff were friendly and very hospitable. 10min walk to and from Murrayfield

Really enjoyed our stay here. We went for one of the smaller double rooms, it was a bit cosy but very smart, clean and fine for our purposes as we were out and about when we weren't asleep. We arrived early for check in but were still offered complimentary tea and coffee in the bar while waiting for our room... More

I was a little disappointed to find out that we were staying in the building across the road, however it wasnt bad, room was large and nicely decorated, there was a lounge for everyone to hang out... Breakfast was great if you prepaid otherwise very expensive.. I couldn't however figure out how to work the radiator so it was a... More

We have stayed here twice on our visits to Edinburgh. The staff is very friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a small boutique hotel this is a great one. They have a lovely breakfast and dinner is very good. We stayed in the same room and it has been redone and updated with keeping the tone and essence... More

We arrived at the West Coates (main) building early and were told we were in that building. When we returned later to check in we were taken across the road to the second building. Although this is very clean and has everything you need, it feels a bit like the 'poor relation'. The bar is an 'honesty bar' - help... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
