Hotel is located about a block from the Royal Mile near Holyrood Palace. Walk to castle takes about 10 or 15 minutes, but there are plenty of shops and restaurants along the way. The hotel was nice and clean, the room very spacious with a big and comfortable bed. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was ok, only a 5 minute walk to Holyrood park, which is a very nice hike. It is also a 10 minute walk to the central area of the Royal mile (the main street)... more

This was the first hotel on our trip, where we stayed 2 nights, room only. The hotel was centrally located,making it convenient for local attractions, restaurants etc. It was adequate for our purpose but souless, lacking in atmosphere and cheerfulness.Would not bother to stay here again, as we prefer a brighter more welcoming hotel which this was not. more

We were on aplanned visit to Edinburgh with friends and got a reasonable B&B rate for a 4 night stay. The hotel looks better from the inside than from outside. Reception, the bar and lounge area are combined and limited in space although they were never crowded. Breakfast was very good - especially the cooked breakfast which included black pudding... more

I've stayed in a few of the MacDonald Hotels and have always been impressed with them. Great internet prices available, very good value for a 4 star hotel.
