Nice hotel in peaceful area but only 15 mins walk to Princes street . Staff all very helpful and friendly . Great sized bedroom but slightly worn and in need of an upgrade . Excellent view from bedroom . Dined in bar on one occasion and found food to be basic and overpriced . One of our meals was served... More

We ended up in Edinburgh unexpectedly last week and booked our room on arrival. We found the manager very pleasant to deal with and were upgraded to a suite which we weren't expecting. The room wasn't the newest, shiniest most modern room I've ever stayed in but I really liked it, it felt warm and comfortable and the view was... More

We stayed here for an evening as we were out and about in the Stockbridge area. First impressions were good, a clean well presented hotel with professional friendly staff. The room we stayed in was a superior double so it came with a roll top bath and a separate shower. Breakfast was buffet style with cooked breakfast as is the... More

What strikes me immediately when I recall our stay at The Channings Hotel was the quality of our room. We stayed in the Discovery Room on the top floor. Not only was it big, but the bathroom was HUGE. It was like a home away from home, bathtub included. I felt as though it was a good value since I... More

We stayed two nights on a Superbreak deal with two other members of the family. Having requested a quiet room when we booked for all four we were placed at the rear of the hotel and were consequently envious of our companions wonderful view over Edinburgh. Their room was quiet too and we know where we will stay next time!... More

We visited here as part of our 2nd Wedding Anniversary. It was a one night stay to break up a journey down South from Angus way. As I have an interest in Shackleton, the fact he used to live there was a nice side to the visit. In the literature inline about the hotel they talk of Shackleton often but... More

We stayed for three nights and had a great stay. Comfortable rooms and very friendly welcoming staff. The hotel itself is close enough to walk into the centre but far enough out to be quiet and very relaxed. The room was very comfortable and clean. We had a meal in the bar and the food was very good. The bar... More

Despite having hiccups booking through hotels.com (I recommend booking directly with the hotel!) it didn't dishearten us and the management were good with communication whilst sorting the issue out. The hotel is in a quieter part of town and we enjoyed the walk into Edinburgh each morning after breakfast. To get to the royal mile where all the touristy bits... More

We paid £99 for the Quest room and I highly recommend this hotel. The room was spacious and the bathroom was bigger than the entire room at the last hotel I stayed at in London! Breakfast was superb and the staff were all courteous and friendly. It only takes ten minutes or so to walk to Princes St.

This hotel is very handy for Princess Street. 10 mins walk and you are on the street. You can park out side the hotel for free between 5.30pm and 08.30am. There are parking machines which you can pay for 4 hours max at £1.00 per hour. The hotel is very clean. and friendly. The breakfast was fantastic. The staff were... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Channings in Edinburgh is an informal, relaxed hotel with a very friendly approach. It occupies five Edwardian townhouses in Stockbridge, one of Edinburgh's most popular 'urban villages'. To suit its location slightly away from the city centre, Channings is a wonderfully quirky property which feels a bit like a Scottish country home, full of charming Victorian paintings, prints, books, furniture and memorabilia that owner Peter Taylor has collected over the years. ... more   less
