Just stayed at the old waverly for one night on my own and two with my sister. The room was massive and so was the bathroom. My sister came as my husband was poorly so I asked to change rooms because I had booked a double bed. They were unable to do this as full but could separate the double,... More

This hotel is within walking distance of the Waverley railway station. So, if you are traveling by rail, or bus it is very convenient. If you take the bus from the airport, the last stop is Waverley bridge, which is at the railway station, you can easily walk to the hotel. It was only 7.50 GBP for a round trip... More

My thanks to this guest for their charming review of the Old Waverley, and especially for sharing how positive they felt their encounters were with the team at the hotel. this guest makes a good point regarding our entrance and we are only too happy to help with luggage - just press the bell at the bottom of the stairs... The Waverly is a nice hotel in a very good location, within a block of the train station and 5 or so minutes walk from the Miracle mile. The building was built back in the 1800's so the rooms are on the small side but adequate and nicely appointed. Very comfortable beds with the obligatory duvet (what every happened to... More

Another super review and I am grateful to this guest for their kind words. Please note that should our duvets prove too warm in the summer (although this is not a complaint we have had thus far) we will be happy to swap it for regular sheets. Leon Kiteley Genera Manager More

I had arrived very early in the morning , as it was to early to check in I was allowed to leave my luggage securely in the hotel. Having been out a long day around Edinburgh I was simply exhausted. My room was great spacious clean and comfortable. With all the little extras supplied such as tea/ coffee. The only little niggle... More

I always ask for a quiet room when staying in a city, so we were put into a room on the 5 floor at the rear of the hotel. So far so good, but then realisation dawned... The room was tiny and boiling hot. There was a single small window that would not stay open so I had to jam... More

Staff were friendly and helpful. While the hotel could use some updates, nothing was uncared for. My partner and I spent 5 days exploring Edinburgh with the Old Waverley as home base. Can't beat this location. Will definitely stay here again. Be aware old hotel means narrow hallways and stairways.

Older hotel, which we liked, but very well kept. Comfortable rooms and a nice hot strong shower (not always easy to find!). We really enjoyed the breakfast buffet, the dining room is very nice. The adjacent bar is a great place for a nightcap- some nice single malts are on hand. Friendly staff. If you do not mind city noise... More

Great location just across from train station. Lovely clean room with tea and coffee facilities. Great buffet breakfast with hot and cold options. Friendly helpful staff and free luggage storage on day of check out. Shame about building works at back of building but still slept well in super comfy bed. Would return and recommend.

Myself and my partner wanted to enjoy a nice night in Edinburgh to celebrate our anniversary! We booked the old Waverley as we have stayed a couple of times before. We paid the little extra to get a room with a Princes Street view and boy was it worth it! The room was huge with a great view of the... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
