Just back from a 3 day trip to Edinburgh courtesy of our daughter. The hotel was just great - location right opposite the Scott Monument on Princes Street. Room was small but very clean and furnished well. Bathroom was decorated tastefully and again very clean. Hotel staff were all friendly and helpful. Meals were exceptional - you must try their... An old hotel that has been refurbished and managed to retain some of its original features. The room we had number 411 overlooked Princes Street and was spacious, clean, warm and comfortable. Breakfast was very good with a choice of hot or cold food. The staff were efficient and friendly without being intrusive. We managed to get a good deal... More

We arrived on Thursday morning to Edinburgh and the hotel is very conveniently situated across the road (princes street) from Waverley station great when you have heavy luggage. We arrived at the hotel to check in and was advised we couldn't have our room until 3pm, but they can store our cases for us which was fine and great in... More

Hotel right between the new town and old town. Easy walking distance to all of Edinburgh's attractions and across the road from the railway station. Room on the 6th floor was nice but quite small with very little storage space. Really good breakfast, fantastic haggis. On the whole a good location for a weekend break.

My daughter and booked in for one night on a very windy cold night (29th Jan). We were told we were lucky as we were being allocated a room with one of the best views. This was true - spectacular view of the Scott monument and just great to be able to appreciate the amount of craftsmanship from above street... More

We stayed in the Old Waverly Hotel for a long weekend, and we had a lovely stay. Staff was really friendly, location is perfect (closeby all the tourist attraction in Old Town, public transport and great pubs and restaurants in New Town). The hotel has a nice, authentic feel and the rooms were great. Nice bed, good bathroom and a... More

Stayed here for a mini city break with a friend. Hotel is right in city centre located on Princes Street. Rooms small but everything that you could need. Clean and very traditional. Good selection at breakfast and staff were very friendly! Great views of the gardens and Scott monument if you get a table by the window. Great hotel to... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighborhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
