Well, the location was good as I wanted easy access to bus and train but that is the only positive thing I can say about this place. Unfortunately I read enough good reviews to pre-book and pre-pay 2 stays within a week. If my second stay was not pre-paid I certainly would not have come back. Now I understand why... more

Reading the reviews on here I think there must be a real difference in room quality. I stayed with family at the weekend, and had a really dark, dingey room on the top floor with views over a load of pipes and rubbish. The hotel is very old fashioned, but that didn't particularly bother me. What bothered me was the... more

After reading some of the reviews on this hotel I nearly telephoned to cancel but I was so glad I did not. My sisters and I booked three rooms for a weekend at the end of April. Our rooms were comfortable, clean, fresh towels every day. We went down fror breakfast on both mornings and throughly enjoyed a leisurely breakfast,... more

First impression terrible. On entrance carpet worn and filthy. Reception dull and needs makeover. Rooms very dated and grubby looking. Breakfast good. Great location but wouldn't use again. more

Having read some of the negative reviews of this hotel, I was a bit wary, but I need not have worried. Yes, it is an older hotel, but that means it has character, and my room was spacious and spotless. My room was front facing, as I requested, with a bay window, giving the most fantastic view of of Princes... more

We stayed here for 3 nights late March/early April. The location was absolutely perfect for airport buses and visits to virtually everything we wanted to see. The staff were all very friendly, courteous and helpful and the overall service was excellent. Our room and bathroom were newly decorated and extremely spacious and clean. Thank you very much Royal British Hotel.... more

I stayed in this hotel for a night in between a late arriving flight and an early onwards train connection. The Royal British was ideal for this sort of stay as the airport bus drops you around the corner and the trainstation is just across the road, so even if you have luggage it's not a big deal! Reception staff... more

We had a lovely big bay-windowed room with a good view over Princes Street, a bit noisy as windows not double glazed and rattled quite a bit in the wind, but the room was warm and comfortable with a sofa and easy chairs. The furniture, carpets and decor are old and really do need updating, but the bathroom, towels and... more

The Royal British is definitely in need of some updating. The wallpaper is faded, the bathroom is outdated and the furniture is just plain old. But aside from the cosmetic problems, it's a great place. It's centrally located on Princes St (2 blocks below Georges St) and about a block and a half from the Waverly Station and where the... more

We stayed here for three nights and found it fine overall. We ordered a double room but got a triple room instead probably because we booked in advance... But the room itself was fine, fairly spacious and clean. We were in one of the back rooms which meant we didn't get the noisy traffic but the problem with that was... more
