I stayed here over Easter and would definitely recommend it. The location is very good as it's close to the city centre but lies on a much quieter street. The room was excellent. Very spacious with a large ensuite. The staff were very friendly. It was obvious that the hotel has recently been renovated and the majority of the work... More

Stayed here for one night during a trip to Edinburgh. Couldn't fault the hotel at all. The location was spot on, just a two minute walk for Princes Street. Room was immaculate and staff were very helpful. Only problem was the lack of available parking but I guess that's just Edinburgh for you. Would definately stay here again. And will... More

We stayed at this hotel over the holiday weekend for a trip away in the city. When checking in the staff were incredibly polite and this was the case through out the stay. I can't comment on the rest of the hotel but I can only judge our experience on the room that we stayed in. Unfortunately our room (104)... More

We stayed here as our final stop over on our Scottish road trip. It was a real gem of a find and we were really happy with our choice. The room was a really good size with a nice king size bed and really high ceilings and thick clack out curtains. Everything looked new. As we were at the back... More

Stayed for 3 nights at the Albany Hotel. Hotel is in a great location, just a short walk away from the town centre. Booked an executive double room, it was massive & bed was very comfy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Robe & slippers were missing from the room but the staff apologised & brought them straight up to... More

Booked into the Albany as its location is nicely central and it was offering a good value for money 2 night deal. We upgraded and booked into an Executive Room. We were not sure what quality to expect as the Hotel seems to have received a mix of reviews in TripAdvisor, some negative ones surrounding refurbishments that were taking place.... More

We stopped here whilst visiting Edinburgh Uni. Rooms are pleasant, very handy for the city centre. Pleasant and helpful staff. There is limited parking and it's twelve pounds a night to park. The hallways and stairs areas are slightly jaded.

Stayed for one night and was very pleasantly surprised. What a gem! Excellent location, fabulous design. Lovely touches such as mini fridge in the room, bathrobe and slippers made it feel far more luxurious than the £40 I paid. 4 star quality and cheaper than a Travelodge! Will definitely stay again.

Booked this hotel last minute and found it was the nicest hotel for the price. We were even more pleased on arrival at lovely room with plenty of space, friendly and genuine staff and central location. Would definitely recommend and return.

This hotel is a nice, comfortable hotel in a good location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, as was everybody else in Edinburgh! The room was very spacious and had a walk in wardrobe. The bed was very comfortable and the room was warm. Only a couple of bad points: 1: The walls are very thin. I could almost... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
