The hotel was totally overpriced. The bedroom furniture is shabby, and not in a cool way! The shower did not work properly and complicated to operate and potentially dangerous because it is extremely/boiling hot. The tap heads on the bath just fell off in use. The towels were poor quality and inadequate for 2 guests. We could not open the... More

Lovely hotel, received amazing service from Tom on Saturday 29 August whilst we were up for the Fringe. He went above and beyond to help us out. Hotel is clean and stylish. We will definitely arrange to stay here next time we're in Edinburgh!!

We really want to thank Tom who was based on the main desk last night. We had lots of issues that could have ruined our holiday and he helped us sort and was a pleasure throughout. Wonderful hotel, thanks Tom

We stayed 2 nights, and this was a good location, to be away from all the hub-bub of the Fringe in August. The bedroom and bathroom were very spacious. The buffet breakfast was ample. The staff were very kind and quite helpful.

Located in a nice quiet part of town and only a short walk from the center of Edinburgh. Lovely, large room with an enormous bathroom and plenty of cupboard space and a very fine bed. The reception was open 24 hours.

This is a boutique hotel situated in a very convenient part of Edinburgh. It is in the New Town but close to the main shopping streets and handy for the main tourist sites. Our room was in the basement but was very large and comfortable. The bathroom was also very large. The only negative for the room was the lack... More

My first stay here in March 2015 was amazing! I was upgraded to a room with a bathroom the size of a small football pitch and the decor was fab. True they were mid renovations, and also true the hotel is like a rabbit warren, but the amazing room made up for that. My most recent stay though in May... More

As the review above says about the great location, lovely building, very polite staff and very clean room. We stayed in the honey room room and it was during festival time so it was expensive- £250 The room was huge and nicely done, massive bathroom and 3 huge windows. However, for that amount of money these are the things that I... More

Stayed here for one night while visiting the Playhouse. Hotel is in an excellent location, close to shops, playhouse and transport links. The room was ideal and nice and clean, lovely large bed, usual tea/coffee amenities, hairdryer..... The bathroom had a bath with overhead shower; was small but was clean and more than adequate. Continental breakfast was included in the... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
