The hotel is perfectly located to see all the major sights Edinburgh has to offer. The staff were very polite and helpful and a credit to the hotel group. Unfortunately I wasn't so happy with my room (201). It's on the ground floor literally beside reception and next to the staircase. Noise pollution for the room is very high. No... More

My wife & myself stayed two nights for my belated 50th birthday. We loved it, its in a great location & would highly recommend. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the continental breakfast was lovely & the staff were really friendly. Will certainly use again.

Nice, large room in a good neighborhood, a few blocks away from the train station and other attractions. Very close to tram to the airport and many restaurants. Attentive, helpful staff. We had a ground-floor room, but we didn't see elevators, so ask first if that's important to you.

The location of this hotel is perfect, within a short walk of everything central and set on a quite street that feels like suburbia. This hotel is very clean with seemingly new carpet, fresh paint and new fittings. Whilst the ensuite bathroom in the room was sparkling, it was ridiculously small in size, measuring approximately 1 metre x 2.5 metres... More

Stayed for three nights and spent little time in the room... I did like the fact that it was close to the Royal Mile/Princes Street, I could stop by my room between sightseeing and dinner to change and regroup before heading out for dinner and more sightseeing. Staff was friendly and hotel was elegant yet comfortable. There was still some... More

We stayed here on 19th June for two nights. The staff were very helpful and the double room we had with en suite 302 was very clean, modern and nice. The location has easy walking distance to the centre and beyond for attractions. Tram stop just around the corner for city or airport connections. Plenty of local bars, pubs and... More

We stayed here on June 20th, nice staff, fabulous room with a great shower and excellent wi-fi, the breakfast was the only slight let down but I will definitely be back! On street parking of which there is plenty is free from 18.30 - 08.30.

The hotel was nice. Very large, but nice. The room too was ok, but the bathroom was a bit tired. All in all though we had a nice stay. From the hotel it was quick and easy to walk into the center of town.

We stayed here for a business trip and couldn't fault the hotel, rooms were lovely, beds very comfortable indeed, not too far out if you fancy a lovely meal and a few drinks, seemed to be close to most things. The staff were very helpful and attentive and always offered to help with finding places for us.

Will keep this fairly short and to the point.. I stayed at the Ballantrae Albany Hotel during a short trip in June 2015. This is a small hotel, in a pretty good location and in a quiet neighbourhood. The room, at the top floor - was quite spacious, with a nice design, a great bed and a nice bathroom. The... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
