We have just returned from a two night stay, although we walked passed the hotel originally while trying to find it, It has no mention of Ballantrae on the signage outside, its just called the Albany Hotel ! A little confusing. It looks like most properties on the road a very large Victorian building however it is spread across several... More

Stayed last weekend. The place was a shambles, there is obviously refurbishment underway. We should have been advised of this beforehand,£447 for three days in what they call a 4* hotel but certainly does not appear to be is a disgrace. We spent most of our time in an excellent hotel around the corner In York Place,

Stayed last weekend - OK - location good, the room was acceptable - clean, good size including the bathroom. Looked like it had been refurbished recently however would just say that the attention to detail wasn't there!! Rest of hotel was shabby (corridors etc) but has no problems regarding noise etc, which was good as work was obviously going on.... More

We stayed here for an overnight stay whilst going to the theatre. We stayed in room 28 which was in fact a suite. The bedroom was excellent and the bathroom was first class with plenty of complimentary toiletries. Breakfast was not included but we only paid £49 so this was not a problem. The hotel is just a short walk... More

Got a great deal on this hotel at the last minute, room was extremely spacious and bed was large and very comfortable. Loved the old fashioned style of the rooms, staff were very friendly also. Breakfast was a continental buffet with a good selection of meats, breads & fruits.

This was booked as a last minute treat combined with a little shopping in Edinburgh. The hotel's location is great and we had no problem finding parking for the car. Staff were polite, friendly and very helpful and the continental breakfast was pleasant enough. However I was a little disappointed with our 'executive double room'. Firstly the approach to it... I picked this hotel since it was close to the place I needed to go. The reception staff were friendly and helpful- That was the only good thing about it. The room was smelly, with stained carpets and old furniture that your local charity shop would not accept. The carpets in the corridor were ripped and the wallpaper was peeling... More

This place could be so great, but from what we could see, it's charm has come and gone. Our room had threadbare carpeting and really squeaky floors, beds were not comfortable, furniture was antique and not in a good way. Darkness prevailed in the rooms. I don't understand all the other great reviews - are the other rooms really that... More

Visited the restaurant this evening with my husband and had a lovely meal served by helpful and attentive staff. The restaurant offers a relaxing atmosphere - just right for an end of week meal! Give it a try, I'm sure you'll agree!
