I was traveling alone and delighted to find a welcoming place in a safe and convenient location. Johnathan and other people in charge of the house also helped me get my bearings regarding getting around in the city. The open kitchen is great. I could make a cup of coffee or tea or take some cereal any time I wished.... More

The rooms are comfortable and clean, the breakfast is plentiful (with a wealth of friendly conversation) and the staff are friendly, knowledgable and helpful. I don't know about the quality of the dinners (they smell nice, though) as I am usually out at the Fringe or too busy between shows to partake. There is no pressure to join in the... More

If you're determined on a cooked breakfast and hate mingling with others, then you may not like coming here. If you like a bit of learning from the experience of others to help you plan your day, if you like to have a lounge to read in in down time, if you like a heartfelt and caring welcome, then you'll... This is the type of review we value as do customers. Quality is all about expectation so it is great to inform guests what to and what not to expect. This helps them to settle in quickly and feel very much at home, and not feel the awkwardness of newness which sum do experience when visiting new places. This place... More

Janet was such a welcoming host and brewed us up a tea as soon as we had come through the door. We had a room with a shared bathroom which was kept spotless. The bed was very comfortable. Even though breakfast wasn't cooked there was so much choice on the table it didn't matter. This is a great place to... More

Value for money is so important and you were in one of our more basic but very comfortable rooms sharing the bathroom next door with other guests. Next time try out our ensuites, a little more expensive. We are glad that we can offer this which means we are accessible to people with many budgets. So glad that the value... More

Warm and welcoming with quiet reading room or diverse conversation at the long table. No monastic gruel here, its a wonderful combination of sacred living and practical life in the city The wooden chapel in the garden and different open house and discussion groups alongside a regular guest house give a flow to the place which is tangible from first... I have had the great fortune to have stayed at Emmaus House on numerous occasions over recent years and have also introduced Emmaus to others. Janet, Andrew and Jonathan are very friendly and caring hosts, and create a spirit of warm and genuine welcome which is a delight - I feel very much at home and have had some amazing... More

I have a confession! I stayed here 3 years ago while visiting the Fringe with my sister and didn't immediately review it as it was so good- I feared it would get so popular that there would not be space when I visited Edinburgh at a future date. ( my visit was 2011 but the drop down box doesn't go... More

Had a really nice stay here. The place itself is clean, quiet, and safe, and the people are lovely. Communal breakfasts were a great way to start the day. I am not a religious person but that was not an issue at all. There was a sense of welcome for everyone, and friendliness prevailed. I traveled all over Scotland, and... More

My wife and I were in Edinburgh for the Festival, and this was the perfect place to stay. We had a large comfortable front bedroom with a good bathroom. Good free Wi-Fi. Very friendly indeed, and the communal breakfast was great, and a lovely way to start the day, with fellow guests. The Christian values and prayers and not pushed... More

I was staying as part of a 1 week intensive course I was made to feel comfortable and looked after. I had my Guide dog with me, and they were very supportive of me, making sure I could get around and knew where everything was. Thank yiou Guys.

John having you to stay with your guide dog was ground breaking for us, we learned a lot about accessibility and we had lot of fun with you and the dog. Enjoyed having you and your group here. We will feel much more confident if someone comes to stay with their guide dog. I hope they do. More
