Friendly and welcoming. Although I only stayed for sleeping purposes, I was looked after. The character of the building is only found in Edinburgh, and being born and raised in Edinburgh, found it very homely. Close enough to get around to wherever you wish to visit in the city by walking or buses/taxis.

When I first arrived Edinburgh, it is the Emmaus House offered a very comfortable and friendly environment for me. I can read books in the big sitting room, or have conversations with people from all over the world here, and most importantly, I can enjoy wonderful meals made by the Emmaus team. The living experience here soon eliminated my sense... More

I really enjoyed my stay at Emmaus House. It was like having a place to stay with an option of being in a community. The breakfast was simple and the conversation was delightful. Emmaus House was a nice walking distance from the most important sights which are also reachable by public transportation. There was some trouble with the wifi but... More

The staff provide a most excellent warm, hospitable and friendly welcome at Emmaus House. We felt looked after and thought about. Even our daughter (whom we had travelled to see) was invited to join in the community breakfast on the Sunday morning. The food is home made, is mostly fairly traded and wholesome. The room we had was of reasonable... More

So lovely to be back in Edinburgh again. Timed it just right for the Turner exhibition again! The warmth and welcome at Emmaus are second to none - Benedictine hospitality at its best - thank you all.

I thought I had written a review months ago but it seems to have got lost. My wife and I spent four nights at Emmaus and were welcomed and cared for with great generosity. It is comfortable ,homely, and a Christian community of the best kind. People who do not share their benedictine spirituality need not be scared away- you... More

My wife and I just returned from Bonnie Scotland. From first contact Janet, the manager, cared about our needs, we left a message and she phoned us back. The location of Emmaus House is ideal to walk to the highlights of Edinburgh. Directions were easy to follow and parking, with support from the friendly staff (Jonathan and Andrew were stars!), was... More

From first contact by email through to the conclusion of my 6 night stay, the customer service was excellent, going well beyond what could reasonably be expected. My room was lovely, everything was clean and the bed comfortable. The atmosphere is very gentle and welcoming - the communal meals are not intrusive at all, but a welcome time of conversation... Stayed two nights at Emmaus House with my mother in October 2014. Jonathan and Andrew are extremely gracious and welcoming hosts. Since we had not signed previously for communal dinner, they kindly accommodated our impromptu picnic dinner in the common room/library, and even brought us tea and extra salad from their meal. The rooms are adequately spacious, clean, and comfortable.... More

More a retreat centre than a B&B, Emmaus House provided a warm and hospitable welcome as we began our Scottish adventure. A bright, sunny house, it is very well-located in a quiet neighbourhood with easy access to buses, the Royal Mile, and local theatre and restaurants. Breakfasts are simple but plentiful with fresh fruit, cereals, breads, and bottomless tea. Fellow... More
