We arrived in the middle of their refurb, however this was not an issue. We had a superior room and it lived up to its name, it was ultra modern and airy. It was however cold, as the air con/ heating wasn't working, or was a hotel issue as we had an oil filled radiator in our room. High quality... More

Me & my boyfriend visited for a nice city break, the hotel was free with our Carlson Club points, I wouldn't return. The hotel was nice enough I suppose and in a great location however there were a few bad points that people should know. The pillows for 1 were feather pillows and I literally had about 3 hours sleep... More

What an amazing hotel , situated right on the royal mile. We stayed for 2 fabulous nights in a suite with breakfast included. We was welcomed by the lovely reception staff and concierge who answered any questions we had and gave us some useful information about the attractions of Edinburgh. All public areas and our suite was spotlessly clean and... More

Absolutely wonderful! Service is superb, our free upgraded family room is clean, huge and quiet although facing the Royal Mile. Breakfast is lovely and the additional warm menu is a big plus. As it is a centrally located hotel noise is to be expected. This can be avoided by asking for a room as high up as possible. On the... More

The hotel is in a great location in the middle of the Royal Mile. The main attractions of the old town, shopping, night life and train station are all in walking distance. If you are interested to see the surroundings or highlands there is a tour organiser next to the hotel - which is an advantage as the tours start... More

I stayed here for two nights over the Easter weekend. As a Gold member, I got upgraded to Business Class room. Great view, excellent atmosphere and very central. Services were excellent all round. The breakfast was really good and I did make use of the swimming pool every morning. Highly recommended and would definitely come back.

Room was cold on arrival and then incredibly noisy it was impossible to sleep as you could hear all the noise of deliveries and drunks singing their way home. Room recently refurbished and not quite finished - so bedside lights did not work etc etc. Too cold and noisy to sleep and difficult to read as no working light. Do... More

Dear Victoria, I am very sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay. Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
