stayed the day before traveling down to Manchester. Room over looked a service yard which had people constantly pushing rattling crates until late at night, then started up again in the morning. Woke up at 8am with housekeeping banging the vacuum against the interconnecting door and laughing at chatting loudly. Upon checking the room to ensure we hadn't left anything... More

Minutes from Princes Street, a large room, contemporary decor and a modern bathroom. Breakfast - the whole shooting match including cereals, fresh fruit, eggs, bacon, croissants, even haggis!! - for £8. Great deal on an ideal place to stay for seeing Edinburgh.

Was a bit nervous of my visit based on some prior reviews but I held out hope! Had emailed the property a few days prior to visit requesting an early check in and a quite room given a red eye flight from Toronto. Hotel was able to accommodate early check in (45 min early) but the room on the second... More

First of all, the good bits. The lobby was quite nice, and the location is really handy for the centre of Edinburgh and Waverley railway station. The bed was comfy. And the breakfast was reasonably tasty. But the room was old and tired. The bathroom had soap dispensers, the decor was really knackered, and the provision of snacks in the... More

You couldn't be any closer to the train station. The hotel is exceptional and the staff are extremely good at their jobs. I couldn't have asked for more. The breakfast was very good and would suit all tastes.

Located about a block away from Edinburgh Waverley train station and up a short close to near the base of the Royal Mile, this hotel is clean and comfortable. The room was a bit warm all the time and one window of the two tilted in just a little. We propped the door open, hoping for some air. Breakfast is... More

My wife and I stayed there last night, paying £152 for a superior double room. Expecting a high enough standard at what I would consider a middle of the road hotel operator and for what we got I was extremely disappointed. Certainly not value for money, have seen far better premier inns and travel lodges and will be and will... More

Location was excellent - just a block from the train station and a block from the Royal Mile. Room was clean and large enough. However, the beds were as hard as a rock. We have never slept on beds this hard in our life. It really impacted our experience here. The toilet was very difficult to get flushed properly too.... More

Stayed here for 1 night in may, great location just off waverley station and inbetween Princes street and the Royal mile. Rooms are basic but clean and well presented. Breakfast was awesome with a great choice. We did experience some exterior noise but nothing out of the ordinary and hey, its a city centre hotel! We would return and are... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
