Loved that there was a plug right by my pillow so I could have my phone near me while charging. The room was quite small and stuffy, but it was only a 4 person room, so that's to be expected. Beds were quite hard. Restrooms small and pretty crowded - whole floor (~8 rooms?) had 3 toilets and 3 showers.... More

Me and my friend had a private twin room (batman and Robin!) We had a great time and the location of the hostel is perfectly situated just steps off the royal mile. Our only complaint was that our room was very cramped for us and our luggage and the beds were not the most comfortable. If you're young and looking... More

Very clean, peaceful, the staff is great, Alma received us with her huge smile, so we felt home as soon as we arrived! It's right in the center and it's so easy to find! We arrived from the airport by bus, we just followed the directions we read at the web site and voilá! And the pub crawls is also... More

I planned on staying there for two nights with a friend, ended up booking one more night because there's so much to see in Edinburgh and we really enjoyed staying at High Street Hostel. The staff is incredibly helpful, they showed us good places to see and how to get there and when our travel plans didn't work out they... More

I was traveling by myself and decided to come to High Street due mainly to the cheap price. The place is pretty cozy and decorated neatly with little trinkets. The rooms are typical hostel rooms with lockers that get the job done. Outlets at each bed were great doe charging electronics overnight. Breakfast is typical hostel bread, spreads, cereal and some... I stayed one night in April and thought its a convenient stop over and pleasant and well maintained for a hostel. Wifi was reliable, location impeccable - right off the mile and barely a five minute walk from Waverly. Plenty of bars around and a good place to base yourself while exploring the royal mile and its vicinity. I stayed... More

The service at the reception is really good. The entrance with its sofas is comfortable and perfect when you don't want to stay in the room. The matresses on the beds are old and should really be changed soon. There is also little room for people travelling with big luggages, it seems to get a place in the middle of... More

The hostel is in the heart of the old town and we could reach all major attractions easily on foot. The train station was also close by. The rooms, beds and facilities were OK, but already a bit older. The kitchen was really well equipped for cooking your own food and breakfast was really good and cheap (around £2 if... More

The hostel has a fantastic location and didnt need to get any taxis, so I thought the price was very reasonable. Staff were welcoming and so helpful, giving directions and providing free maps. Didn't spend a great deal of time in the hostel, but rooms were clean, great sized lockers and very comfortable so really pleased. Also felt really safe.... More

Location is just ideal and staff is amazing! Could not ask more but I have to say that the rooms smell a little weird and we stayed in a very small room with 8people so not a lot of space to put your things or move around. But I would stay again here, for sure

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
