This hostel has a great location situated just off the royal mile near the castle and a great decor and atmosphere. The rooms are also very reasonably priced although are a little small. This hostel just missed out on a five star rating because of some of the facilities like the bathrooms. It also has very nice kitchen and living... More

We checked into this hostel in may of 2014. The location is great, right next to the castle, shops and dining. My girlfriend and I stayed in a 10 bedroom dorm, but the room was plenty spacious. We met lots of new people and the staff here was incredible. They were extremley helpful and friendly. Only downside, the wifi was... More

I stayed at this hostel twice for one night with friends and each time, I was a bit sad to leave. The reception staff is very friendly and welcoming at all time, day or night. The beds are really comfy and provided me with a good night's sleep both times I stayed. Each bed is provided with lockers where we... More

I find it hard to criticize castle rock for anything really. They simply tick all the boxes where many hostels fail. Security was great with guarded 24 hour reception and in room security lockers at no cost. Staff were friendly and helpful when quizzed about local restaurants or sites. The beds were comfortable. Atmosphere was well catered for your quiet... More

I was a female traveling alone, and I stayed here for 5 nights in one of the larger dorms (12 beds? 14?). Overall, I loved it. Super cozy and friendly inside, with tons of common areas downstairs. Full access to the kitchen, refrigerators, dishes, and coffee, tea, and hot cocoa available for free at all times. I never felt unsafe... More

I stayed in this hostel recently with 4 friends (in 3 different dorms) for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. This was the 1st hostel I've stayed in and if they are up to this standard, I will stay in many many more! I was very impressed by the security getting into the hostel, no chance for anyone not staying there... More

I've been traveling for two years now, and Castle Rock is the best hostel I've ever stayed at. Period. The building is amazing, and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The Australian boy on reception... just wow. He was brilliant :)

This was one of the better hostels I have stayed. Good location next to Edinburgh castle and royal mile. Good wifi even in the rooms. Spacious rooms with free lockers also nice to have. Few nice little lounges downstairs where you can chill out. Breakfast is £1.50 for bowel of cereal and a glass of juice and piece of bread... More

I've only been to Edinburgh once, and I've only stayed in this hostel during my time there. But what a lovely stay we've had. I've been to more hostels all over Europe, but I can honestly say that this is the friendliest, most welcoming and awesome hostel I've been to. The staff is really nice, there is good comfort, good... More

Stayed here for a weekend and was really impressed with the hostel. The location, next to the castle and close the grass market, was the best feature for me but besides this the hostel itself is really good for back packers - bedding is provided, towels can be hired and the bathroom facilities are more than adequate. Breakfast can be... More
