The staff was amazing (especially Ingrid), the rooms were clean, spacious, bright and nicely decorated, the common rooms were massive and amazing and the whole hostel just has a great vibe. It's almost TOO perfect. And at that rate! Never experienced better value for money. Honestly, any backpacker would love it here, I can't see how they couldn't. The only... More

What is not to love about the Castle Rock Hostel? In fact, any other hostel I stayed in after here, all I could think was "It's not Castle Rock" > The location is perfect - right next to Edinburgh Castle at the top of the Royal Mile! It's a short walk through the old town and just down the hill... More

First time in a hostel and they were really friendly and everything was very chilled out. There was a pub crawl, which was fun. Just a great mix of people are attracted here, it's well-worth checking out.

My room was two floors down from ground level. Luckily, because it's on a hill, there was still a window to the outdoors--it wasn't a basement room. The rooms all have cute names and the bedding is colorful, giving it a much less institutional feel than other hostels. They also provided some things other hostels don't in the bathrooms, like... Situated right by Edinburgh Castle this hostel is right in the heart of Edinburgh's old town, 15min walk from Edinburgh Waverley Station. I stayed here for two nights with some friends back in April and we all loved it; it has fun decoration, spotless communal bathrooms, and clean bedrooms with a house-keeping service. There is a communal kitchen and living... More

Very good hostel just next to the castle. There is free coffee and tea, a big space to eat, drink or whatever! The rooms are normals rooms with lockers. The bad thing is: it's difficult to find electric plugs. There should be more. Anyway except that it's a very good place to stay.

Stayed here for 4 nights and couldn't have asked for a better location. Just around the corner from Edinburgh Castle, up the street from Grassmarket restaurants, and an amazing view of Arthur's Seat. Staff are friendly and helpful and although a very large hostel it has a great friendly atmosphere. Able to get a private room for 3 people and... More

This was my first bagpack trip to Edinburgh. We saw good review on Castle rock hostel, and really above my expectation. It was a clean and basic dorm. Everyone had own locker, so we able to keep some stuff in room (as it was add marks in our stay). The hostel is big and decorate with unique design, I found... More

We stayed here over the Fringe Festival. A very warm welcome by friendly and helpful staff was the only stand out at this hostel. The room was by far the smallest hostel room I am yet to Experiance. I understand we visited in a peak period but the price we paid for our two night stay was out of this... More

This is one of the biggest hostels I have been in. The space is quite interestingly designed with a variety of rooms for a variety of purposes. The atmosphere is cosy. It so also quite central, right next to the touristic royal mile, in the old town. So overall: pretty nice.I just wish the staff would be more flexible on... More
