I stayed here for two nights in January 2015. The hostel is in a great location - it's literally only several hundred meters from the castle, and it's just off the Royal Mile. It's a very large hostel, but has a good atmosphere. The rooms are themed (such as a Beatles room, a Star Wars room, a Scottish slang room,... More

Stayed here for two nights on a trip to Edinburgh with some friends. Getting there from the airport wasn't too bad, but we spent a bit of time wandering before we got our bearings. In the middle of winter (unsurprisingly) the wind and chill factor make it a tough walk to get to, but the heating in the hostel keeps... More

I stayed here for a couple days between arriving from London and going on a bus tour around Scotland and then heading back to London. The staff is very helpful and the luggage room near the reception is quite helpful since the place doesn't have elevators in case you have heavy bags. The rooms themselves are quiet nice, the beds... The hostel was very crowded during our stay, but that wasn't a problem. The staff is helpful and the place is, in general, always clean. The problems we had were with the music from the common areas playing very loud until late and people going through the corridor every minute made a lot of noise too (yes, the door and... More

The whole experience was like staying in a castle. The locker is quite big and there is a safe inside the locker. The great thing about it is you don't have to bring a padlock because the keys are provided, both the safe and the locker. The staffs at the reception are really friendly! They are really helpful and lovely.

It was a blast! This was the first hostel I ever stayed in, and I must say it set a standard. It is, of course, still a hostel, so don't expect the Ritz, but friendly service, a fun atmosphere, and nice facilities! We went on to stay in other hostels on the trip we took, but none were as nice... More

Location - amazing . near to castle and royal mile but yet not on a busy road. Walkable from station Service - its a... More

I had originally booked here for 3 nights and ended up staying for over two weeks. Felt right at home from the get go, amazing atmosphere and lots of lounges in the hostel to socialise in or listen to music or quiet rooms to just read a book! Dorms are clean and well heated, faultless security and bathrooms were well... More

This is a really good hostel. The dorms are spacious and beds are big. The atmosphere is great with a variety of common rooms, and the building has charm. Right in the old town across from Edinburgh Castle. I'd stay again.

Castle rock is one of the very best hostels I have stayed in. Staff are friendly but discreet. Place is very clean. Linen smelled fresh and the place seemed to be kept up well. Great common areas to hang out in, so many to choose from. The location is great. The only strange thing is that there seems to be... More
