I have to travel to Edinburgh pretty often for work. After trying a variety of different hotels I finally discovered The Howard & my bed hopping days are over. Tremendous service, lovely rooms & competitively priced. I'm not sure what more I could ask for. The individual nature of each of the rooms is a welcome departure from the bland... More

From arrival to check out our stay at The Howard was excellent. The room was spacious and comfortable, as was the bathroom. But apart from that the staff made the visit most enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble. They were friendly, professional and attentive.Breakfasts were delicious. Everything made my husband's 50th birthday weekend one to remember. Thank You!

A charming boutique hotel decorated Georgian style. The drawing room is a perfect place to relax after a day of touring this majestic city. This location is absolutely perfect as one can walk to all of the best restaurants, and touring destinations. The butlers will assist with your travel needs, and were very helpful!

If you are looking for Victorian style treatment this is the place. The butler would not let carry my own bags. If I had requested it they would have also unpacked and repackaged my bags for me. Need a button see on? They'll do it. Need your shirt pressed? All free of of charge while you have a drink in... More

I've stayed in many hotels in Edinburgh, but The Howard is in a league of its own! As soon as you enter you are greeted by a flurry of polite and welcoming staff who are all too eager to help. We stayed in a superior double room, it was absolutely beautiful, very tastefully decorated. Each room is individually designed which... More

We arrived at The Howard early afternoon after driving up to Edinburgh from Northern England. We parked right outside the door in the beautiful Georgian street which the hotel is situated. We went in through the large door and were very pleased with the sumptuous interior of the lobby. We checked in with reception and were assigned a Butler [wow!]... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
