We stayed here for one night in January 2013. We had a great experience at The Caledonian. The room was lovely and the bathroom very big. The staff were very friendly and you knew you were receiving 5 star service. The spa was impressive. I paid a little extra for a room overlooking Lothian Road with views to the Castle... More

Stayed at the Caledonian in February on a business trip to Edinburgh. It's a beautiful old world hotel and had a lovely room on the First floor. Love the Cally bar! This was my second stay at the hotel and I recommend it to others from my office who go there to meet our colleagues in Edinburgh.

Stayed two nights whilst attending the Scotland vs England rugby match. The meal was excellent at the bistro but the accommodation was a bit small and noisy even on the fourth floor. I know this is a city centre but being kept awake by shouting in the streets until 3am whilst in a 4th floor bedroom was definitely a surprise.... More

I was in this hotel for 2 nights during my honeymoon and I must say the treatment was 5*. A nice welcome present on my bedroom, a king bed and the most beautifull view we could have: the castle!!! Breakfast is also very good, I really recommend this place.

This hotel totally lived up to its reputation. The hotel is ideally situated overlooking the castle and on the edge of Princes Street. The staff were lovely, the room was immaculate and the bed was really comfortable. Would highly recommend this - especially if its your first trip to Edinburgh and you want to be central.

We stayed here on a Friday night in February. We stayed in the sir Walter Scott suite. We love this hotel especially the bar and peacock lounge. We are in the restaurant upstairs which was amazing. Staff were very polite and friendly. We had breakfast in the room. Our room looked over to the castle.

We were going to Edinburgh for my boyfriend's birthday so I decided to book this hotel. The room was so lovely, and very spacious – especially the bathroom. The swimming pool and gym are great, and the bar was also very good serving a wide variety of beers. Car parking is good value for a city centre at £19 per... More

Spent the weekend in Edinburgh. It is a city I know well, but this is my first stay at the Caledonian. The hotel is centrally located with great access to all of the places you want to be. If you are driving, it is a little challenging to get there, particularly with part of a Princess Street closed to cars.... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
