Yes, this is a really basic accomodation. No cupboard (you get a few hangers), no amenities in the bathroom (only soap dispensers), no frills at all. But - and it's a big but - the hotel has been recently renewed, with a smart colour scheme, nice furniture, a very comfortable bed, and the right number of outlets to plug your... More

The accomodation was as described on the website. It was clean and furnishings were of a good standard. The kingsize beds were excellent. Had some concerns about the size of the shower recess as it made it difficult to keep the water inside the bath. Also the shower floor was quite slippery. A small bar frig would be a bonus.... More

Have stayed here several times and found it ideal for exploring the city centre and visiting the shops. Although 2 minutes from the end of Princess Street it has always been quiet and great for dropping of shopping before visiting several nearby galleries. Next to a lovely little cafe for breakfast and coffee and would recommend the porridge.....yum!

The hotel room was clean and tidy a good price for being so close to the city centre it was a steal. However, there was 1 towel between 2 of us for 3 days. When we asked for more towels at reception it was just a hassle. Not one member of staff didn't look as if their hamster had just... More

Bit wary as it was my mothers first travelodge experience - but she soil don't believe how clean the room and shower room were. Basic room but all you need - TV, tea/ coffee etc. the review said a 3 min walk from the train station and they were right 😃

Room was basic and a bit short of storage for clothes etc but overall this was excellent value. Staff were very good and after checking out we were allowed to leave our cases in storage at the hotel and return later in the day to collect. For a city break I would recommend this hotel.

Ideal location for station, and all of Edinburgh's attractions with plenty of eating places and shops nearby. Had sunny room on Waterloo Place. Weather forecast was cool for July so didn't ask for quieter room at back. But it turned warmer so as well as fan running, we had to have windows open all the time, disturbed by traffic noise... Good location close to Waverly train station. The hotel was clean and quiet on our visit despite it being busy at the time of our visit (fringe festival time) we were happy with it last time we booked it again for our visit this year.

We stayed there for 2 nights and would recommend this place to anyone would like a cheap but convenient stay near Edinburgh train station. The price is different day from day, so it is better to book early. The location is great especially if you want to go rappie's tour, which is right opposite the road. The only downside is... More

Great service. Spartan room. Difficult to find space to open a large suitcase. But it's clean and adequate. No breakfast service, but you can get breakfast boxes. The hotel is very centrally located and the fare is definitely not expensive compared to the offer nearby- Lots of nearby breakfast places and restaurants- I think the hotel would be even more... Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
