This hotel is close to waverly bridge. It is a great location. Very clean and tidy. Room was a good size. Was excellent value. Cons were WiFi not included had to pay additional £3 for 24hours. And breakfast comes in a box which was not included and we didn't find out what was in it. Would 100% use this hotel... More

Ideally located for all attractions.. visits. thats why it gets a 4 rating . It did the job, no frills, it is what it is. Basic.. get what you pay for. Funny smell in the corridors and the rooms were unbearibly hot and consequently did not sleep well. Not able to open windows no AC. Loads of good cafe's very... More

This was in an excellent location- minutes walk from Waverley Station- although the directions on the site could have provided an easier route. We only found St Ninians Row after we'd booked in! It was a virtually straight route from the station. The room was very small- but comfortable for two adults- the family rooms look bigger. It was very... More

The hotel has no lobby - just a front desk. We were place below ground in level 3 . The lift and the corridor stank but fortunately the room was clean and the be was comfortable. Very basic room providing no bathmat or hair dryer and breakfast provided in a box!!!! Not my ideal of service.

We booked this hotel for one night because of its proximity to the Rabbies Cafe where we would be departing for a three day tour of the Isle of Skye. This hotel was very, very basic. Rather expensive for what it is. No shampoo. No conditioner. No body wash. No hair dryer. Two towels. One bathmat. There was a hand... More

We stopped in this hotel for 2 nights during a city break. Our biggest concern was people saying there was nowhere to keep your bags, as we hadn't booked a train til very late to make the most of our time there. However Neil who was on duty said it would be no problem and they did keep the cases... More

Had a room on the back of the hotel. Very little street noise at all. Well maintained and comfortable. Great location for exploring Edinburgh! Adjustable heaters in each room. Family room perfect - small single fits another adult or a child.

Room was clean and smelt lovely. View wasn't great - straight into an office block as we were at the back of the building downstairs, which also meant the room was quite dark. On the plus side it was very quiet with no traffic noise whatsoever and there were only 3 rooms on our section so there was no banging... More

An ideal location if visiting by train and all the local shopping areas. Does not provide a cooked breakfast but breakfast boxes. Wetherspoon are around the corner in the Omni Centre to get a cooked breakfast at a reasonable price.

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
