What a fantastic place to stay, convenient to all the attractions, a wonderful breakfast selection, with haggis and black pudding to die for she even ordered me both from her supplier to take home, a wonderful host and very accommodating to our our needs, and her taste in decor in the large rooms is lush. Would definitely stay again or... More

I visited Edinburgh for my honeymoon and had the good fortune to book in at 20 Albany Street. From the beginning to the end it was a delightful experience and one which I would recommend to anyone without hesitation. An elegant, immaculately-furnished townhouse conveniently close to the heart of the city as well as to bus, train and tram links,... More

We had 3 nights at 20 Albany St. Our spacious room had a big bed as well as a stylish couch. There is shortbread as well as Maltesers to go with your tea & coffee. Breakfasts will keep you going all day, great quality produce for the fried breakfast, hearty porridge, fresh fruit as well as toast & croissants. Denise,... More

Immaculate, comfortable lodging... Location was wonderful as we felt like locals. Wonderful restaurants within two minute walk and easily able to sight-see all of Edinburgh by foot. (Will mention that we do enjoy walking. We enjoyed some whiskey one evening and happily took a cab with no issues and minimal expense.)

A beautiful Georgian Townhouse a short distance from Edinburgh's main station. A short walk and you find yourself in a very tranquil setting. We stayed in the very comfortable James Craig suite. Liked the large shower. Everything you would need readily available along with afternoon tea, whisky and lemon cake. The Scottish breakfast was high quality cooked-to-order with either an... More

We spent 4 nights in the Robert Adam suite, with a delicious breakfast every morning, not to mention lemon cake and scotch upon arrival, and home baked treats in the room. We agree with all the positive comments from prior reviews, no need to repeat them. Denise even offered for us to leave our luggage there while we went on... More

The location was the best, we were walking distance from main landmarks, which made it very easy. Denise a wonderful host, her homemade breakfasts are the best, and the rooms are just wonderful. We picked this B and B due to the excellent comments on TA and we were not disappointed. The house is absolutely beautiful and very elegant in all its furnishings and decor. We had the Robert Adam Suite and the photos just don't do it justice. The room felt very roomy and the bed is absolutely enormous. The whole place... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
