We stayed for a long weekend over the May bank holiday. Having booked quite a way in advance I had got a good deal on the room rate. Location on Rose Street was excellent, it was literally sandwiched between bars and cafes, and all the main areas and tourist spots were a close walk away. The room was fairly small... More

Managed to get a good deal on the room by booking well in advance. Asked for a room with a bath, on checking in, and this was available for me. The location is fantastic as it is down a little lane at the back of the shops and not too noisy. Just round the corner from the buses and only... More

I brang my husband up here for a few nights for a birthday trip to the city. The hotel itself is situated in a quaint lane with loads of bars and shops around. There was a Sainsburys local just a minutes walk away which was a bonus. There are some buskers outside but to be honest the never got much... More

I booked the room in advance so it only cost £80 for 2 nights. This is the second time we have stayed here. It is a brilliant location right in the centre of the city. The rooms have be refurbished and are very clean. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is no parking but there is a 24hour... More

Good bright airy rooms and slap bang in middle of Rose Street. Great value for money and friendly staff. Didn't hear a thing at night despite entertainment being on in the pub below (it was a Sunday though and possibly a bit quieter). Walk out the hotel and there is a host of bars and many more around Rose Street.... More

Had a very pleasant 3 night stay. Room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated - somewhat chic. Simple but decent hotel, good value for Edinburgh. Friendly staff. In a great location with numerous restaurants nearby and close to sights. Approx 15 min walk to the old town and 5 min to train station.

This hotel is in easy reach of the main Edinburgh attractions, located in a pedestrianised street with lots of bars and restaurants nearby. It is small (40 bedrooms) and there is no bar or restaurant, however no need for them. Our room was on a corner over the street, but did not get much noise, apart from barrels being unloaded... Room was somewhat on the small size but adequate. They didn't have a family room and were very accommodating to my adult son and I by bringing in a cot for one of us to sleep on. This location is very convenient to shopping, some restaurants and Edinburgh Castle. They were very good about keeping our luggage for us after... More

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
