Excellent location to stay in during the festival, or going shopping. Thought it might have been noisy at night, but it's ok, just the seagull in the morning. Clean room, comfy bed. Friendly staff. Plenty of places to eat and drink nearby, also for breakfast. I was on the fourth floor...but it's ok there is a lift. You have an... More

Great place to stay. Ideally based for everything. Restaurants pubs shopping castle etc. Everything at the door. Rooms spacious compfy beds. Hair dryer on loan.we was on floor 4 so was not and humid. Fans available in the rooms.very expensive for the festival. Weekend was £280 so not cheap for a bed.

Stayed during the Fringe, very well priced hotel for the night, excellent location, a tad on the noisy side (there was a band performing in a nearby pub) but that finished at midnight. Lovely big room and a huge shower room. Will be staying again on my next visit to Edinburgh

Even during peak Edinburgh Festival time, this budget hotel represented poor value for money. At over £100 a night (not including breakfast) you would expect bedside tables and storage (there were none) and that a non- functioning bedside light would be repaired or replaced (it wasn't). Normally we feel that budget hotels represent good value for money but this one... More

The hotel was a excellent location for the Edinburgh Fringe and only a couple of minutes walk from Edinburgh Waverly. The rooms were clean and the staff were great throughout the stay. I have been to many Travelodges but this one has been the best.

Not fancy, but I don't attend the Edinburgh Festival to sit in a hotel. The staff was uniformly great, helpful and friendly at every turn. And the room was spotlessly clean and quiet. What a wonderful find.

Hugely convenient and as good value as one would expect at the last minute! It was a good choice location-wise for all the venues around Hanover Street. Luggage could be left earlier than advertised check-in, and I would recommend that you check in as close to 3pm in order to get a room on the fourth floor (rear) which will... More

The hotel could not have been in a better location for our visit to the Festival however the room was very disappointing. The bathroom was in dire need of a makeover, if the toilet was flushed the shower could not be used for at least ten minutes due to low/no water pressure. The bed and pillows were most uncomfortable.

This is a basic 2 star hotel, if you don't want this and you're looking for luxury and fancy frills then pick another hotel. We couldn't of been happier with our stay, friendly and polite staff who were knowledgeable and we're happy to help, large very clean room with a comfy bed and big fluffy pillows and a good sleep!... Despite previous reviews, the staff were accommodating and helpful, there was a fan in the room, middle of July no noise troubles, don't understand the previous negative reviews. Given the location which couldn't have been better, this travel lodge is decent value.

Staying in New Town

Neighborhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighborhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
