We arrived and were warmly greeted by Derrick. The room was amazing. Fantastic view of Arthur's seat. The breakfast menu is vast and locally sourced ingredients. Personally I think only a fool would miss out on the full Scottish Breakfast. Delicious! Fantastic experience. Thank you

Stayed here with a friend in November. Great experience. Derek, the host, was very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was amazing too. I had the good fortune of getting this through a groupon offer, because although I couldn't fault the experience, I don't think I would have splashed out and paid full whack for the stay otherwise.

Tastefully decorated house, quiet room with cozy and comfortable bed, delicious inventive breakfast dishes - you would not get eggs with fresh tarragon at a hotel. The owner is a nice person who clearly is striving to make his guests feel at home. You can't go wrong with this place.

The Allburys is a very cozy B&B right along the coastline in Portobello - just a few minutes away from the Edinburgh Center. This is a nice place with clean and cute rooms. However, what makes this place so adorable is the owner couple that has been most helpful in helping with our days planning and more. The breakfast is... More

I wish I could have stayed longer at Allburys. I was in Edinburgh for a work conference and I am so glad I found Allburys. From the warm welcome from Derrick to the attention to detail it was perfect from arrival to departure. The Robin room was spacious, quiet, had a bed so comfortable I almost did not leave. Tastefully... More

We stayed here for three nights in September and stayed in the jay room. The room is delightful, nice furniture, huge bed with lovely bedding. Tea coffee and kettle provided with a jug of real milk in the fridge. The bathroom is beautiful, large shower with a marble seat. Lovely white fluffy towels. It is situated about a 15 minute... My wife and I stayed two nights in order to chill and take in some of the city. Allburys was a perfect choice located on a quiet street a few minutes tram ride from the city centre. The accomodation was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. Derek the owner was very attentative and helpfull and the breakfast was first rate. We... More

We stayed for 4 nights in the middle of the Fringe. The Jay room was very stylishly decorated with tea & coffee facilities. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the shower excellent, but the best bit for us was Derek's amazing breakfasts. We looked forward to filling in our selection form every evening, choosing from the varied list of healthy and... More

Four days at the Fringe were exhilarating, and the perfect complement was our stay at Allbury's. Derrick was the consummate host, displaying warmth and hospitality during our time there. We stayed in the Robin room, which was just right spacewise, with an adjoining entertainment room and an impressive wall of CD selections. Bed was especially comfy. Bottles of wine and... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
