We were looking to book a table in the restaurant for our stay in Edinburgh when we noticed that they also did rooms. We decided to stay here as well and we weren't sorry at all, it's a wonderful place with friendly and helpful staff. The only drawback for us was having to have breakfast with the other guests and... we had the most lovely pre Christmas lunch at 21212. The food was delicious and really, one course was as nice as the last. The dining room is lovely, quiet understatedly, muted tones with tables cleverly accessorized. For us, two wannabe foodies, it was a real treat and such an enjoyable afternoon, so enjoyable. I'd go back again in a... More

We visited the week before Christmas and wow!! What an incredible experience!! The location is great, first impression is a stunning building with a historic aura! 5min walk from princess st, but you feel miles away from the bustle!! The room was simply sublime!! Perfect in every way! The staff were discreetly available and the breakfast room is brilliant, didn't... More

Faultless. Stayed one night in Room 1. Beautiful fittings, huge bed and great bathroom (his and hers sinks, huge freestanding bath and shower). Welcome tray with sloe gin, two bottles of mineral water was a lovely touch. Views out to the water at Leith were fabulous daytime and night. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed on the evening that we stayed... More

We stayed two nights in June (Friday and Saturday). Our room was huge and well appointed. The staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast is an intimate affair in that you eat it with the other guests. That feels a little odd to those of us used to keeping to ourselves at breakfast however it worked really... More

The restaurant has four bedrooms in a central location in Edinburgh. We were on the top floor. Large, very well appointed and comfortable room, immaculately maintained and cleaned, enormous superb bed, large bathroom with rainfall shower, and very nice sofa and chair. Great view over Fife from the windows. Huge wardrobes, plenty space , bathrobes, slippers and plenty towels and... More

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay. The rooms were tastefully decorated with plenty of sitting space in the room, in addition to the communal lounge area. Our rooms were at the top of 4 flights of stairs and no lift so this may not suit all travellers. The complimentary port and still / sparkling water was a nice touch.... More

21212 is well known as an award-winning restaurant in an upscale residential area of Edinburgh, but its four well-appointed bedrooms were a special find at a reasonable price. We were not able to have lunch or dinner there because the restaurant is closed on Monday, but the delicious breakfast gave a good indication of why the kitchen won a Michelin... More

We stayed the night in the rooms above 21212 after a meal ( see separate review). Our room was finished to a luxury standard and sold for a very reasonable price. The bed was comfortable with nice linen and the shower was nice and powerful highly recommended.

We stayed at 21212 during our last three nights in Scotland. A converted "brownstone," 21212 is in a beautiful, centrally located, part of the city, and is a perfect blend of boutique hotel and B&B. We enjoyed every aspect of 21212, from the helpful staff and fantastic accommodations, to the amazing food. Whether or not travelers decide to stay here,... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
