I was visiting Edinburgh on business and wanted to stay somewhere that wasn't a standard business hotel. Reception staff were very welcoming, the room large and comfortable. I ate out with colleagues so didn't get to sample the food. Nor did I get to eat breakfast as they don't start serving until 8.15 or 8.30! I would happily return and... More

Our third visit to 21212 was not disappointing. The food is excellent as ever, as are the very friendly staff. The room we stayed in this time was room 2 at the top of the house and it has not changed since last time we were here - very quiet at the back of the hotel, very clean and beautifully... More

This was our second stay at 21212 and everything was as perfect as the first! This stunning terraced house with four boutique bedrooms and a Michelin star restaurant surpasses all expectations and certainly is by far our favourite Edinburgh establishment. The rooms are exquisitely decorated with fine attention to detail. Room 12 has to have the biggest bath I have... More

We researched long and hard to find a small boutique hotel that would be different- we found it at 21212. Four rooms in a walk-up townhouse just east of New Town and a quick walk to the train station. Away from the tourist streets, this is a quiet place- certainly our room- Number 12, was extremely peaceful, looking out to... More

We stayed here in March 2015 and were delighted with this hotel. We dined here on Saturday night and were very impressed with the food and service. Our room was particularly pleasing... very spacious with a lovely lounge area. Our complimentary champagne and a carafe of sloe gin much appreciated. A great hotel and we strongly recommend it.

Absolutely amazing dining experience at 21212 in Edinburgh. From the moment we arrived the attention to detail and service was top class. Lovely dining room and setting. The menu doesn't give much away about the dishes content. Each course is full of lovely surprises. The lamb curry for starters was mouth watering. My wife had the cauliflower n cheese starter,... Hi, my wife and I have just returned from a superb week-end in Edinburgh. We stayed at the 21212 Hotel in Royal Terrace - and both my wife and I can say that this is by far one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed at. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious and the decor had been... More

This is our third visit to this lovely restaurant and it was still as good as we remembered it to be from last Christmas. The food was lovely, innovative and very good. They don't try to do fancy things to cheap ingredients a la Tom Kitchin but they concentrate on good ingredients and cooking them to perfection. I would say... More

Lovely! The rooms are very good and it sounds like they took you by surprise which is quite something considering how lovely the rest of the house is that you have seen. That will be it now, pressure to stay every time! More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighborhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighborhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicenter Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
