Although we enjoyed our stay at this hotel, I would not recommend it wholeheartedly. It's decor was not for me, very modern bright colours (vivid green and orange walls). The staff were very helpful and arranged extra pillows as I cannot sleep without being propped up following a recent operation. Breakfast was also a little disappointing, not the large Scottish... We just returned from 15 fabulous days in the UK. The G&V Edinburgh was by far the nicest hotel - especially the service. The whole team was young, enthusiastic and professional. Loved the Nespresso machine in the room! Our room was great with a lovely view of Victoria street and the location cannot be beat! Literally a block from Edinburgh... More

Without a doubt the best hotel we could ever hope to stay in. They were so welcoming from the second we walked in and even provided a free bottle of bubbly in the room and 2 birthday cards as I informed them it was my wife's 30th. They all could not help you enough and the room particularly the wet... More

We decided to visit Scotland for my birthday and booked for 3 nights through Secret Escapes. While staying there enjoying ourselves and coming to recognize we haven't seen all we wanted to see, we decided to add an extra night. Lovely breakfast, lovely environment, location and staff. Worth every penny

I really enjoyed staying in this hotel, everything about it was young, fun and beautifully done. A great cocktail list and choice of spirits at the bar - the Old Fashioneds were amazing - lovely wine list, great food. Nice little terrace for drinks, great restaurant. My room was lovely, right over the entrance with a great shower, loads of... More

My boyfriend and I decided to celebrate our one year anniversary in Edinburgh and experience the Christmas Markets. I have been to Edinburgh many times due to family connections, but my boyfriend had never been so I wanted to show off the city at it's best. We booked the G&V Royal Mile through Mr & Mrs Smith hotel booking site... More

We stayed in G&V for a romantic getaway over the May bank holiday and couldn't have wished for better. Stylish, beautiful room with a fantastic view over Edinburgh. Centrally located on the Royal Mile. Food, cocktails and service were all superb.

Stayed for one night on May 22nd. Great location, staff were all very helpful from check in to checking out. Had a room on the 5th floor with a nice view of Edinburgh castle. The rooms and decor are all very contemporary. Great breakfast and worth giving the cocktail bar a try!

We arrived at Edinburgh after a long day of driving, we were exhausted and we entered the G&V street from the wrong direction, so we had to U turn in the middle of the street. However, when we pulled at the hotel's parking, our troubles were over. the kilted bell boy, jumped on the car, took care of the parking... More

It's new and stylish. The room is big and clean. I think it's difficult to find a 5-star hotel with new decoration in Edinburgh, but lucky that G&V is the one. For the breakfast, you can choose not only from the buffet table, but also from the kitchen menu, e.g. full Scottish breakfast, egg benedict, etc. You don't need to... More

Dear mikeho314, Thank you for taking the time to leave us such a great and detailed review. I could not agree more that the best way to start the day is with a nice and relaxing breakfast. As you say in our Cucina restaurant we aim to deliver just that; Great food, Great service in a warm and welcoming environment... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
