First: very good location by the Royal mile and plenty of space in the apartment. But: the noise from the street and the nearby pubs made it impossible to sleep. The window glasses were so thin that you could hear people talk normally on the street below. I do also like to be welcommed by the host. We didn't see... More

This apt is all about location, which we wanted. Right on the royal mile which can't be beat, close to pretty much everything. For that the place is perfect... but some things to know before hand, it is on the 4th floor, allot of steps multiple times a day. The apt is for 4 people, the bedroom had 2 single... More

Stayed with my wife and in-laws in July 2013. I was looking for something where we could have a bit more "family life", since in hotels you usually just go to your rooms and have to agree on a time to meet. These apartments were exactly what we were looking for! Location is realy good. Not central, but we did... More

We were located on the Royal Mile which was fantastic. We were only in Edinburgh for a couple of days so it was nice be so close to everything. Since we were there on a weekend, we were able to park for free just around the corner. The parking is free until 8:00am Monday morning and with an early flight,... More

First read about this cottage so you know which apartment/cottage you are booking. The title is a bit misleading. We knew that this cottage was a little way out of the city so we had no surprises. Good bus service, £1.50 into the city centre or £10.00 for a cab. 5min walk to the local co-op stocking all the essentials.... More

We stayed for a week at the Parkside Apartment, not far from Arthurs Seat which sleeps 6 over 2 floors. From the outside it looks pretty grim and to be fair is better when you get inside. Outside there is a lovely garden but very little, if any, street parking which doesn't cost a fortune. The house could be lovely,... More

We ended up here when our original apartment had an plumbing issue and were booked here by them. I think we got a good deal as this apartment would sleep 6 comfortably so we had a room each! Great apartment. No issues except the corkscrew was broken (LOL) Comfortable. Located about £10 cab fare from city centre. Nice neighbours who... More

Auld Reekie has all the basics you need in a low budget kind of way. Everything is clearly pretty cheap but it's warm, there's hot water and you get a towel each. It's adequately clean but I would say it's been a while since it was deep cleaned or had any money spent on it. 64 steps up to the... More

Stayed for the weekend with friends and overall the apartment was clean, in a great spot and just what we needed with 6 of us. Well kept and spacious. The tiny gripe for us was just the little touches like no tea or coffee or salt and pepper. In the grand scheme of it they are not important but litle... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighborhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavored souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
