The location is perfect 5 mins from the castle. Our room, open plan with a roll top bath at one end, was beautifully decorated and well furnished. Breakfast was of a good quality and the service was excellent. The service in general was always good. The slight downsides are that the hotel has no parking and the nearest car park... More

I come once in a while in Edinburgh, and this is a great location, close to the Royal Mile. The rooms are excellent (I stayed twice so far), very good beds, good design, and spectacular showers / bathrooms. The restaurant downstairs is very nice too, good deco, and nice bar above. Good wines too. There is a small yard to... More

We booked this as I had always wanted to stay at a Hotel Du Vin and this was a treat weekend away for me and my Girlfriend. First impressions of the Hotel were great, nice location, pleasant staff on reception and a really nice entrance, bar and resatuarant area. Unfortunately it all fell down when it came to the room!... Typical Hotel du Vin, lovely rooms, good toiletries, restaurant excellent. No great social scene at this hotel though, bit off the main area, bar very quiet. Rooms at front of hotel are super noisy as the hotel is right on the pavement of a main road, lorries, noisy cars etc. air conditioning units in hotel are the old fashioned wall... More

Stayed over night in a Superior room last weekend. I have paid more for inferior rooms in the past! Lovely food, room was excellent, the Whisky bar and the Bar were beautiful and I enjoyed just sitting in the upper level couches looking up through the skyline and relaxing. Only 5 minutes walk to the Royal Mile too.

Recently helped arrange a very quiet after wedding meal here. The staff were excellent! Very accommodating. The food was great, good choices, lovely kids menu etc... The price was very reasonable and the venue was just what we were looking for; very smart and discreet. They tolerated the children well too. 10 out of 10 for the Hotel Du Vin,... More

The Hotel is up an alley way that has a disused feel to it but once you get in the Hotel is nice, the room I had was well equipped and comfortable, it's about a 5/10 minute walk to the Royal Mile. It's conveniently located for the National Museum and University.

Dear Shriggers, Thank you for your review of Hotel du Vin & Bistro. It was a pleasure you read you liked the hotel, even though you found the entrance a little daunting. I do believe the little entrance adds some character to the hotel and also makes the courtyard area more attractive. I do hope you have the opportunity to... More

We had high expectations having stayed in a hotel du vin before and we were not disappointed. Excellently located and with a 20 minute walk from the train station, it proved an ideal base to explore the wonderful city. We were able to leave our bags before and after check in. Not convenient if you arrive by car as it... More

Booked a twin superior room as they don't have any twin suites which seemed odd. The hotel wasn't full but it turns out the only twin room they had available was the disability adapted room so the beautiful gracious bathroom in the website pictures was functional and basic with a massive shower with shower curtain, adapted loo, massive hospital taps... We have stayed at many of the HdV hotels around the UK. During that 10 year period the standard of both the rooms and the service has steadily gone downhill. We booked a standard room at a cost of £150 per night, excluding breakfast. On arrival we were offered room 'Schlos' which overlooks the central courtyard. It was small, with... More
