The rooms are small with thin walls. Our room had a small shelf unit right next to the bed which you could bang your head against when you get up.
When we got there the lift was out of order, but was fixed the next day.
There was sign of water damage on the tiles of the walk in shower/toilet room.
The TV had what appeared to be a burn mark on the front when it was plugged in but switched off. It went when it was unplugged.
The buffet breakfast was nice but, personally, the vegetarian haggis - although it tasted nice - didn't agree with me!
On a positive note, the views around Masson House are impressive, with Arthur's Seat on one side and more picturesque scenery on the other. But a bus or taxi ride is advisable into the centre - otherwise it's a minimum 45 minute walk.
The staff are helpful and the bed was comfortable.
Overall it's not the most luxurious of places to stay but, for our purposes for the Edinburgh Festival, we went with "it'll do"...
