The hotel is not in the best place of Edinburgh, Reception was cold, corridors are dark painted in dark colours, the hotel is trying to be different but with not much success. The room was small and dark, creaking mattress. Will not recommend. more

The reviewers who complained about the rooms being plain sorta missed the point--this was a prize-winning hotel in the minimalist style when it was introduced. As such, the rooms are not fussy, but they are quite comfortable and clean. Our twin room was spacious and we fortunate to be on the street side with a good view of the castle.... more

stayed at the point hotel from june 25-july 2, we absolutely love it. the staff is very friendly and helpful. the room we had, room 313 is absolutely wonderful, 2 single beds and a pull out couch, very large (wheel chair accessible) washroom, tons of room in the room. Over looks Edinburgh Castle. We absolutely loved everything about the hotel.... more

Stayed here for two nights in June 2009. Well-located, though it's at the 'bottom' of the Royal Mile, and off it by one block, so be prepared to walk UP everywhere you go! Room was fine and the bathroom was of reasonable size. The shower would be hard to get in/out of if you were an older person because of... more

We stayed at the Point Hotel for 4 nights - two nights prior to our tour and 2 nights with our tour group. This hotel is in a great location in Old Town and a short walk up to Castlehill and the Royal Mile and convenient to shopping and dining around Grassmarket. We arrived on a Sunday morning at 9:00... more

Stayed at The Mercure Point for 2 nights with my partner and friends. This hotel is really good value for money at just over £80 per room per night. Breakfast was extra, but cheaper if you pre-booked at reception. Reception staff were really helpful, looking after our luggage until our evening flight home and confirming our flight booking on-line for... more

Good points: location, easy walking distance to Royal Mile, Princes street etc. Excellent staff, especially those at Reception. Breakfast has something for everybody from Full 'English' to toast, cereal and croissants. Served in pleasant small Restaurant. Rooms are large. Comfortable bed. Not so Good: Parking is extra £13 a day. Corridors are garish. Bathroom very old fashioned (but functional). Window... more

This place was radically different from normal hotels. The walls were psychedellic colours like neon yellow and red. The ambience was totally unique, and stark, and had an appealing quality to it. The interiors were minimalistic (table chairs and bed, but the high standard of cleanliness made up for everything, and it sure left an impression on us. also very... more

We stayed at the Mercure Point during the heineken cup week and even if it was a bit noicy our overall stay was great. The staff was very helpful by giving us direction and providing us with a map of the area. The decor, I guess it is a matter of taste. Anyway, great location walking distance from every place... more

The Point has a great location, friendly staff, and very large rooms--but it's let down a bit by a lack of attention to detail. While we really liked our room, the bathroom was a bit of a disaster--the sink leaked, there were traces of mold on the tub, and worst of all the shower would go freezing cold or boiling... more
