Found out about Gil Dun from Rick Steves' Snapshot Scotland. It is a 10-minute bus ride from the Royal Mile. We lost our way to Gil Dun and I called to make sure they knew we'd be late. Gerard helped with directions. He also helped with dinner, getting on the right bus to and from the Royal Mile. We had... More

The bedroom was of a reasonable size, but the en-suite was tiny (about the size of my airing cupboard). When we flushed the toilet I fear we woke all the other guests. The TV was very small and hummed. I found the proprietor Gerry to be condescending, I was surprised on my return to see that there was a guest... More

This is a wonderful Guest house. Gerald and Bill saw to all of the details. And breaks is just to die for. I especially love the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. It's shaped to look like a fish, complete with a lemon tail. And French Pressed coffee. So good. It's located close to some nice places to eat and right... More

A frustrating start to our visit due to a bus mixup, but once we got settled everything turned out roses. Gerry is so helpful in pointing you in the right direction to town (and the correct buses) in addition to the best sights to see. Billy was on vacation, but Maggie went out of her way to help in every... More

We stayed at Gil Dun for 2 nights a fortnight ago. From the time we arrived we were made to feel right at home. Access to public transport is a 1 minute walk to the bus stop. We were told what buses to catch and where to get off. Places to eat are a plenty and all within easy walking... More

What a wonderful find the Gil Dun Guest House was for us! Beautifully decorated, fantastic breakfast, helpful and friendly hosts, all in historic Edinburgh. Great value for the dollar. Comfortable beds and spotless rooms. Gerry and Billy go above and beyond to ensure that their guests are happy and comfortable. It is close to a bus stop so getting to... More

We stayed at the Gildun for 3 nights at the end of May and couldn't of been happier with our stay! Gerry and Billy are great hosts and the breakfasts are amazing! I really do believe you would struggle to find a better place to stay in Edinburgh. The rooms are well decorated and to a very high standard. As... More

Stayed at the Gil Dun three nights, and it was such a lovely oasis in Edinburgh. Every minute of my stay was delightful. The beautiful room was so comfortable, and Gerry’s helpful advice each morning at breakfast, not to mention his excellent choice for music each day, really set the scene for a great time. The location is ideal, in... More

What a lovely first experience in Scotland. Jerry was fantastic and very punctual with bfast. We arrived early and he was certainly accommodating. The location is very good, only a few minutes walk to all the bus lines. Enjoyed staying slightly out of center city. There wasn't anything about our stay that we didn't enjoy. Thank you Gil Dun!!
