We stayed for 3 nights in Room 4 which had a double bed, 2 single beds and an ensuite bathroom. The room was a good size and everything was lovely and clean. The beds were very comfortable and we all slept very well during our stay. The breakfast was lovely and plentiful, probably the best we've had on our travels... More

From the personal greeting by Gerry McDonald, complimented by an excellent breakfast menu, to the cleanliness of the facility, as well as, the friendliness of the entire staff, the Gil Dun Guest House could easily compete with any of the finest luxury hotel accommodations in Edinburgh. Close to public transportation (2-minute walk), as well as some of the finest local... More

We booked this on a recommendation from Rick Steve's Travel Guide. Glad we did. We wanted something very much like Edinburgh itself, (old stone buildings with character) but quieter than if we stayed in the downtown area. We weren't disappointed. The interior was spotlessly clean, the beds comfortable, and our host, Jerry (or was it Gerry?), was very helpful, and... More

Hadn't been to a guest house for a long time but was recommended this one as a base for the Commonwealth Games by Visit Scotland. The call was worth it! Very welcoming, nothing too much trouble, very comfortable rooms and worth it just for the breakfast! Taxi from city centre in evening only £6.20, bus into town £1.50 each. Would... More

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay in this charming and modern little guesthouse. We had, I think, Room number 2, which was in the back with an enormous window overlooking the back garden and providing a great breeze. The bed was large and comfortable, with really pretty blue bedding. The bathroom was teeny tiny but clean and serviceable.... More

Found out about Gil Dun from Rick Steves' Snapshot Scotland. It is a 10-minute bus ride from the Royal Mile. We lost our way to Gil Dun and I called to make sure they knew we'd be late. Gerard helped with directions. He also helped with dinner, getting on the right bus to and from the Royal Mile. We had... More

The bedroom was of a reasonable size, but the en-suite was tiny (about the size of my airing cupboard). When we flushed the toilet I fear we woke all the other guests. The TV was very small and hummed. I found the proprietor Gerry to be condescending, I was surprised on my return to see that there was a guest... More

This is a wonderful Guest house. Gerald and Bill saw to all of the details. And breaks is just to die for. I especially love the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. It's shaped to look like a fish, complete with a lemon tail. And French Pressed coffee. So good. It's located close to some nice places to eat and right... More

A frustrating start to our visit due to a bus mixup, but once we got settled everything turned out roses. Gerry is so helpful in pointing you in the right direction to town (and the correct buses) in addition to the best sights to see. Billy was on vacation, but Maggie went out of her way to help in every... More

We stayed at Gil Dun for 2 nights a fortnight ago. From the time we arrived we were made to feel right at home. Access to public transport is a 1 minute walk to the bus stop. We were told what buses to catch and where to get off. Places to eat are a plenty and all within easy walking... More
