Huge room and bathroom, all spotlessly clean, lovely big white towels. Friendly staff. Only complaint were the PILLOWS, they were obviously new ones but so uncomfortable, they were so bulky and completely rigid, could not get to sleep because of them, even the old flat ones were better than these!! Shame as the bed was really comfortable.

We stayed here just for a night to accommodate an early morning flight. Was super happy with the location - just a five/ten minute walk to Haymarket Station - and a tram ride into the city. The rooms were positively huge in this refurbished original Edinburgh house. We were in the original drawing room of the house. Plenty of space... More

I stayed here for a night as I was attending a training course in Edinburgh starting early morning and live a 2 hour drive away. When I arrived here I was offered a room on ground level which was perfect. Good size and great for 1 night......but unfortunately the noisy lift was directly outside the room. It was the worst... Stayed here because it was 1/2 way between the centre and Murrayfield stadium where we were supposed to be seeing the foo fighters (sadly cancelled!) Wish I'd cancelled the hotel and booked somewhere else when I found out. The room was very tired, everything needed refurbishing. It was as clean as it could be but the bath looked like it... More

Staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived an hour or so before check in, but as our room was ready the Receptionist let us check in early free of charge. The hotel is in a great location outside the city centre and the Haymarket train and tram stations are only a 5 minute walk away. We stayed in a... More

Room fine for a night. Staff good. Breakfast hot and tasty. Beds comfy and clean. Pillows torture. Sheets on beds not duvets. Room/bathroom clean and a good size. Furniture needs updating. A reasonable stay.

Stayed here on business for one night. Don't believe the TV ads showing refurbished, spacious rooms. I was given a tiny single room with barely enough room to walk round the bed. It was far from clean - grotty windows, fluff and dirt on the floor and in the wardrobe, mould in the shower. It was also tired - the... More

Very clean hotel, easy and quick check in. Stayed in a large family room 312 - only complaint about room was only one window opened. Had evening bar meal - reasonable for travelodge food. Breakfast was self serve and worked fine. Only downside bar/restaurant was very warm! Slight noise in morning with doors opening and closing but in an old... More

Having stayed in all of the Edinburgh city centre Travelodges, this is definitely the worst, now that Shandwick Place has been sold. Use it if it's substantially cheaper than others or if location in Haymarket is paramount. But other than that, I'd go for Queen Street, Princes Street or Waterloo Place which are all handily placed for trains, trams and... More

Staying in West End

Neighborhood Profile
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighborhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theaters and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.
