I don't really think of the Portman as a hotel (just a pub with a function suite) and wouldn't consider actually staying here but for a cheap pub lunch in a beer garden with a playpark on a sunny day, it's ideal. The food is decent pub grub. I had a sweet chili chicken wrap that came with chips &... More

I stayed here on a Saturday.night for quite cheap. Think of it as a hostel next to a disco and you'll be pleased. I stayed in room 1 & it's apparently been redecorated since previous reviews, but very simply in Ikea. Dont know how long it will last. Clean, but stains here and there. Absolutely enormous en suite bath. Great... More

I would describe the Portmann as a pub first, and a hotel as an after thought. Everyone that worked there was very nice. Our room was clean, and after the pub closed down at 11pm it was very quiet. We were served a nice light breakfast of coffee, fruit, yogurt and toast. We were able to drive to the Prestwick... More

We visited here on Tuesday for a lunch and it was decent. They do buy one get one free at lunch time and have 6 or 7 main courses to choose from as well as burgers and baked potatoes. They are all priced at under £6 so its basically £3 and throw in a juice for £1.20 and you can't... More

This hotel is the very worst hotel (if you can call it that) I have ever been to. A friend (who is not going to be after this horrible experience) booked this for me as I was visiting him on a business trip. This very poor excuse for a hotel is dirty and there was not even a working TV... More

Husband travelled back to his home town for a funeral and stayed here for two nights, Our daughter and I joined him there for the third night. The room we had (No 4) is a smoking room though we didn't know this when we booked, it is smelly because of this. My husband joked even the spiders had smoker's coughs... More

The positives: Wonderful, friendly staff and good breakfast. Also very near to town centre. Negatives: noisy rooms above local bar with loud karaoke and drunken guests. No curtains on windows, ripped wallpaper, dark walls. Needs a lot of improvement!!!!!
