We are JUST back from Greengate today and what can I say! We had actually stayed in Kirkcudbright for two nights, four days before we arrived and had a terrible experience. The town and people are beautiful... we just picked a poor place to stay. I had actually wanted to stay at Greengate, but they were booked out over the... More

I am a Canadian that is employed with the Professional Association of Dive Instructors. My goals in going to Kirkcudbright were to research my family tree and a make a donation of PADI books and materials to the local school in memory of my recently deceased Dad. I arrived to Kirkcudbright with no accommodations secured in advance. I asked the... More

My friend and I stayed in the twin room in the loft for two days in October, having decided to explore Kirkcudbright for the weekend. When we arrived - at about ten at night - we were warmly greeted and shown to our room. The room itself was very clean and the tea and coffee making facilities were excellent, there... More

(Actually 2004 - our 15th wedding anniversary - but year not selectable! Still owned by the same couple, though) Only one double room, huge private bathroom and sitting room. Luxuriously fitted and historical - house previously owned by Jessie M King (one of the 'Glasgow Girls') and E A Turner, her husband. Current owners are very friendly, Pauline is an... More

Only 1 guest room, with its own sitting room. Friendly and helpful hosts. Kirkcudbright is a great art town, and the Greengate was the home of Jessie King. It's in a great very old part of town, and the history just oozes from the walls. The garden out back is wonderfully eclectic. Breakfast was also great. Can't think of anything... More

Have just returned from a weekend in this B&B. We very much appreciated the friendly welcome from the owner, including a tour of her art studio on the top floor. The bedroom is charmingly decorated and furnished in a style reminiscent of the era of its artistic famous former owner (Jessie M King) with the theme extending to the top... More

My wife and I stayed at the Greengate for a few nights during our honeymoon in 2005. However, it was enough for us to wish we'd spent the whole time there. The Sauls own and operate the property, and couldn't have been nicer and more accomodating. Every detail was paid attention to: guests get a bedroom decorated with wonderful antiques,... More

The Greengate is situated in the heart of the town, perfect for visiting the area. It is a lovely building - and used to be the home of Jessie M King as announced by a nice mosaic sign above the gate. There is just one room so you really get the feeling you're just staying with friends - but better!... More
