The staff are friendly enough, and there's a good atmosphere in the bar - but the hotel, despite some new carpeting and reasonable decoration in some areas, is in a run down condition and sadly in need of some further refurbishment.and decoration. Although my room was clean and comfortable my en-suite bathroom had quite a bit of black filth between... More

Stayed again at the Royal (Room Only) - good atmosphere - clean rooms - hot water - and excellent maid service. I would recomend for all golfers - cheap / clean and central with 6-7 pubs around town - Excellent Golf Clubs around - Wigtown County - Porpatrick - Kirkcudbright - Southerness to name but a few! Will definately be... More

Stayed there for two nights with two golf friends - room clean and comfortable - Bar very good with good selection of beers - we had room only so can't comment on breakfast. The landlord was very polite and the lady who was in reception was efficient and importantly had a smile for us - and after 6 hrs driving... More

Don't let the delapidated exterior deter you from entering. Our room was basic but clean and comfortable. The owners are charming and couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was fine. The Royal is centrally located for access to the delights of Kirkcubright and and excellent value for money.

We had a very pleasant overnight stay at this family run hotel. The welcome and service were exceptional, with a warm welcome and great service from the enthusiastic new owners and staff who are working hard to re-establish The Royal to its former splendor. The breakfast was magnificent.

This place is a disgrace to Kirkcudbright and Scotland and should be closed down. We had a very unpleasant stay here and things have obviously not changed since our stay. At the time some guests just left regardless of whether they has already paid or not. No hot water in the room and a leaky ceiling. The rude owner simply... More

Was in the area for a brief visit after being away for some years, I was excited at the prospect of meeting up with friends in what used to be our local. However... most refused to meet there are it was clear to see why. The hotel is in a state of disrepair, dirty and lifeless. The hotel is clearly... More

We had the misfortune of booking in here for the jazz festival as everywhere else was full. We would rather miss the festival than stay here again. The hotel is run down and dirty. The staff less than helpful. On arrival we were dismayed at the "cupboard" reception with choice of public bar or pool hall to sit and have... More

My husband and myself stayed at the Royal Hotel last year, we should have known when we were handed the key to our room and then couldnt find it as it was not listed with the other rooms, the room was small even though it was a double and the ensuite was a joke, there was a broken bracket where...
