The whole atmosphere of this Hotel is 'unwelcoming and unfriendly'. The en-suite in our room had a threadbare carpet and a shower screen that was rusty. The television was a tiny portable with all 4 stations unwatchable. When paying the bill, I offered some friendly feedback by suggesting they put freeview in all their rooms. The comment I recieved was,... more

On arrival the reception was fairly cold with no eye contact and a more official rather than friendly welcome. We were given a lightening tour of the hotel and then shown to our room with a belated offer to carry luggage for us. We stayed in room 3, a reasonable sized room with three windows giving a spectacular view of... more

Just home from a wonderful two day break with my husband and his cousin, What a great find. great hotel, good food, and the sea views to die for, The lady on reception was great. This was her first week and in my opinion she is an asset to the hotel. We would love to go back some time again more

We had a wonderful 5 night stay earlier this month. Our welcome was friendly, and although early, were shown to our bay-view room straight away. This was large, comfortable and clean. All the staff gave friendly, courteous, efficient service. Graeme Lamb is constantly keeping an eye on everything to make sure the guests are well looked after - perhaps that... more

Turned up at 2:00pm to sus the place out for possible future stay. Asked for coffee...."sorry, still serving lunch, can't do coffee!!Come back at 3:00pm when afternoon tea starts" Unwelcome smell of rancid fat confirmed our decision not to book. (B&B next door looked much more appealing) more

We stayed three nights, in a double room overlooking the bay (worth paying extra for we thought). We were very comfortable and enjoyed the weekend greatly. The views over the bay are wonderful. We were on the half-board deal, which was good value given the quality of the food. I expected it to be good, but it was better than... more

I took my mother there following a serious illness, described as warm and welcoming but it was not - pretentious and overpriced menu; miserable unsmiling staff, we felt 'in the way'. Disabled access a joke, mother in a wheelchair couldn't negotiate the gravel paths and drive. Promises to bring her tea whilst I walked were forgotten - even paying the... more

We stayed at Balcary bay for 2 nights in October. Our first time away without our young toddler and it was the perfect choice. It is quiet and refined, the service is efficient, courteous and subtle. Everything about the hotel is just right, it is clearly run with incredible efficiency. The hotel was warm, the dining room was pleasant and... more

A lovely hotel in a truly beautiful location. Nice room, excellent food. Just felt unwelcome. Friendly European waitresses were the only staff who actually even smiled. However, they were clearly very well trained. Standards are high. Maybe the management should employ a "front of house" manager to do the welcome and chatting to residents bit. The prices were fine for... more

Very nice country hotel, pleasant staff, and very nice, clean and comfortanle rooms - excellent sea views and nice coast walks nearby. Food is a little too fancy for my tastes, a little overpriced and just a tad more complex than it needs to be - although reasonable value when taken as meal included in taqriff. more
