Pleasant atmosphere, good food. Useful distance from Ferryport. Interesting area and pretty village. We understand that the new owners intend refurbishing the hotel shortly so we look forward to that on our next visit.

We had dinner in the hotel last night, wow! What a difference a year or two makes. My husband and i thoroughly enjoyed our 2 courses and coffee.
I had the goats cheese starter and the other half had the smoked salmon, both presented well.We both chose the venison in a red berry sauce, absolutely divine, served with a good portion of well cooked dauphinaise,and...

It has taken me quite some time to write this review. I visited with a group of approx 100 bikers for lunch in May 2010. Was so impressed with the service, food, location and professionalism of the staff. Was looking for a weding venue at the time. The food was fantastic! very tasty and really good value for the quality we received.
We had stayed clear of the Murray for several years due to the previous poor Management but with the new Management and with the 'face lift' the Murray is ten times better and I would recommend everyone to try their food when passing through Gatehouse...

The Murray Arms is a beautiful historic hotel with Burns connections but is currently experiencing a central heating breakdown. Just check it has been mended before you book. Staff were very smiley and helpful. However there was a degree of understaffing. For example girl on bar was also seating dinner guests, serving drinks, taking dinner orders resulting in slow service. Hotel needs refurbished. Very tired looking in parts but I understand it has just been taken over so hopefully it will be given a makeover. Overall enjoyed food...

Recently taken over by the Ship Inn (qv), new owners are planning a refit. That said our rooms at the very tippy top of the hotel were very spacoius, comfortable and clean. One was called the "39 Steps" but actually there were only 31 steps up.
The food was good though the service was slow on the second night but...

Had a lovely meal in the Murray Arms, broccolli and stilton soup was brilliant, staff were very friendly, place is a bit cookie! bit of a mish mash of rooms, just a bit different, service with a smile made it very enjoyable.
