The Ship is where Dorothy L Sayers wrote "Seven Tailors". It's a traditional pub that has been well renovated. Good beers, good pub food, good breakfast and good service. An altogether comfortable and well managed place.

A large party of us (3 of us being local to the location) went for a Sunday Lunch. Our first impressions of the place was very empty albeit presentable. The menus were duly given and I noted that there was only 1 vegetarian option on the menu. When I enquired whether there were any other options available (as is usually... More

Stopped bv for a couple of brews when we were in town all the way from Melbourne, Australia. Staff were very welcoming and provided great service with free wifi. Keep up the fantastic work and will drop by one day when we return to Scotland.

Overall we were not disappointed as the room was a good size, clean and well furnished. Low ceilings as it was a dormer windowed loft room but cosy. One problem was the noise of morning traffic which echoes up from the street below and with the windows open was quite intrusive. That said we could have asked to be moved... More

Stayed for a single over-night stop, due to its town location and got the last "attic" suite at £120.00 for two including breakfast. Large room with equally sized on-suite loo, well appointed and brightly decorated. Certainly not for tall visitors as height was indeed restrictive. Minor negatives, ceiling light bulbs require replacement, spider webs and slight redecorating required above bed,... More

We were on holiday in Gatehouse of Fleet (self catering) and looking for somewhere to have dinner on our wedding anniversary. The Ship Inn's menu attracted us, so "Inn" we went! We were not disappointed. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent. I had the venison which was cooked to perfection, with a beautiful sauce and accompaniments.... More

The Ship Inn is a welcoming, friendly and efficiently well run business. The ambience is very warm with very attentive house staff and management that are easy to praise and hard to fault. Five stars,but... ...our evening meal was spoilt only by one single factor. The food and the very low standard set by the chef/kitchen. Meat overcooked. The fish dried... More

We couldn't get a room in our preferred hotel in another town so thought that the Ship Inn looked pleasant. It was indeed and we were made welcome and comfortable in a generously proportioned room with an enormous, well appointed bathroom. The staff were helpful and cheerful and the breakfast was delicious and set us up for our day in... More

Was in the area visiting family so I thought I would pop into the Ship as I haven't been here in a bit. Was very busy I'LL admit, but the food was average. I had battered mushrooms to start with which were nice, but a stilton dip??? Should have been a garlic dip. I had the haddock for my mains,... More

A nice hotel. We had a lovely meal with friends on Saturday night. The room was clean and had everything we ended.Unfortunately ,having said when I booked that I had recently had a knee replacement I was dismayed to find that the room was up two flights of steep stairs. Also the room had sloping ceilings which made it difficult... More
