We stayed for a night en route to Edinburgh from the (English) Midlands. The hotel is in a lovely spot, bolted onto one of the many Victorian buildings of a former mental hospital! The website photos make it look like a 1990s corporate HQ for a third-rate IT company, but it's much nicer than that. The room was great, the... More

Booked a two night B&B and evening meal deal. The location of the hotel set in the grounds of the Critchon is extremely nice and very pleasant to wander round if you get the chance. Our room was very nice, clean well furnished and looked out over the gardens. Good toiletries provided in an adequate en suite shower room. Ate... More

A married couple in our mid-thirties, we stayed in this hotel on 26th July 2014 to attend a wedding in the area. From the moment we checked in to our room, 210, it was unbearably hot - whilst I got ready I had to keep cooling myself down with a cold towel. There is clearly a problem with air circulation... We arrived at the hotel very late (after midnight) but this was not a problem. There was plenty of parking and reception was excellent given the time of night. Rooms were very big and exceptionally clean. Breakfast was a combination of cereals and cooked and very tasty. For trips between England and Scotland this is a perfect stopping point.

Nice position on the Scottish borders. friendly staff, nice breakfast & large, clean rooms. Large car park and nice grounds to walk in. Nice restaurant, Wheelers, onsite for evening meals, overseen by Marco Pierre-White. Bar also serves food.

We booked this the night before we stayed as a stop over on way back from Scotland. Booked on late rooms. Got an exec suite which slept the family. Setting was lovely and hotel room nicely fitted. Only downside was it was a warm evening and aircon didn't work so it was very warm, uncomfortably so. I mentioned in morning... More

I've stayed here a few times on business and think the change to Holiday Inn a backwards step. I am currently sat in the bar and finding the service charming but way too slow. Having eaten in the much-promoted Marco Pierre White restaurant a couple of weeks ago I'd have to say I'm surprised he'd put his name to it... More

Well we had a lovely evening at the Holiday Inn Dumfries en route to the west of Scotland, the hotel is set in lovely grounds on the outskirts of the town, and was very peaceful, on our visit. You can have a lovely walk around the church in the grounds too. The staff were very pleasant and very helpful.

We stayed at this hotel for one nights B+B after attending a golden wedding in Dumfries. The hotel was booked 3 months previously as the Aston hotel,we were somewhat surprised and maybe disappointed when we arrived to find it was now a Holiday inn. We have stayed at the Aston in the past and have been very satisfied, this stay... More

My wife and I stayed here for a one night stop over on route to Edinburgh. We were both impressed with the stay and had a nice room overlooking the gardens. There was no issue with the room (some people complained about air-con but we thought it was ok) and everything was nice and new. The hotel is a little... More
