Recently stayed here on a 2 night break. When we got there up the long bumpy drive we went to check in . The receptionist must of thought we had stayed here before as looked gone out at us when he handed the keys to us and expected to know where the bedrooms were !! Very breif welcome and up... more

We had a fabulous Burns Experience here in the hotel's Honeymoon suite, which was huge and really lovely. We booked at the last minute last year and got the very last room, which was adequate and clean but not the best, so booked early for this year to make sure we got nice rooms for us and our friends who... more

I read reviews about the place (after we had booked unfortunately) so I was prepared for the hotel being a little rough around the edges but it was a lot worse than expected. We hated it so much we left a day early, even though we had to pay for it. Accepted that the building is old and has a... more

We arrived and first impressions were very positive, with beautiful grounds, immaculate lawns and bunnies on the loose. The red sandstone building was exactly as you would hope for in a country manse style building. Inside, the lounge and bar area impressed with dark wall panelling and leather chesterfield sofas. Our room was somewhat disappointing, with a window which was... more

We are getting married on the 11th August at Crichton, Dumfries and we booked the whole of the Friars Carse hotel for ourselves and guests to stay in the night of the wedding - 16 double rooms, 3 singles, a family room and a twin room. They had a wedding on the next day but we were assured that the... more

Stayed for a 'Summer Madness' weekend break at the end of April. Yes it is an old building and the paint is chipped here and there but we got a brilliant deal on DBB which included a £21 drinks allowance each night! Although the room was a bit tired it was clean enough and adequate. I found the meals very... more

Went to Dumfries for an under 11 footbal tournment, May 18th, to 21st. Had a ball, great food, lovley staff and the hotel was taken over by a wedding party of 160 guests, to whitch we were invited to by Kenny the bar man, he said we had no choice as the wedding was taking over the hotel. Great experance, the... more

If you want my advice, don't go there. The rooms are a bit tired and in need of decoration. The restaurant serves those 'posh' meals; you know the type; small portions at very high prices. Getting to the hotel is a nightmare as the half-mile or so of dirt track that passes for a road is in serious need of... more

I have recently returned from this hotel and had a lovely stay. Chose it as a venue for my mum's 60th birthday 'weekend away'. I asked for as nice a room as possible for her and my dad...and their room was beautifully furnished, lovely and warm and had a nice view. The room my husband and I had was a... more
