Arriving early evening in the centre of Dumfries, we couldn't find a B&B easily, but found the Dalston - close to the town, and with ample parking. Reception area in a bit of a sorry state, but the room was more than okay, and the bed clean and very comfortable. PS: could only get Channel 4 on the TV!

We stayed here, having had the booking made by VisitScotland. I wish we had seen the comments on Trip Advisor first! The Hotel was grubby, we could only watch one channel on the TV in our room, despite having a set top box, there was no lounge to sit in, only a bar area. The cooked breakfast had obviously been... Old, cheap furnishings, with grubby looking duvet covers clearly not changed between guests - they used top sheets to compensate. The shower was merely an attachment from the bath taps hooked onto the wall but this was incidental as there was no hot water whatsoever. The room was also unheated and very cold. The mattress was brick hard and the... More

A friend booked us in for three nights (!!) as it was the only place that could accommodate 2 couples for Easter weekend. The hotel has obviously seen better days, and the same is true of Dumfries: lots and lots of boarded up buildings/closed shops. And on Easter weekend there were literally maximum 3 places to have an evening meal... More

We stayed for Hogmanay, 2005, & wouldn't go there again, mainly due to the attitudes held by certain members of staff. This certainly was not a family-friendly hotel. We were with our son, who was 2 at the time, plus some of our extended family. Firstly, we were provided with a travel cot, not a proper one, which had been... More

How this hotel gets a 3* rating is beyond me. Dilapidated decor, unusable bathroom, deep fried breakfast and undrinkable beer. Suitable for contractors only. Wanted to leave as soon as we got there. Abandon hope all yee who enter here!

20 to 30 of us have an annual golfing weekend each year at a different UK location during May. This year we chose the Dalston House hotel in Dumfries. Our party occupied 13 of the 15 hotels and had a great time. The rooms are standard but comfortable. There is a good size bath, with overhead shower . Only minus... More

I had the pleasure of stayin at the Dalston for 3 months whilst working in Dumfries. The only words i have are kind ones. Ian an Wilma and there daughters couldnt have looked after me any better than they did. Fact is when i was on holiday for a week i couldnt wait to get back to the hotel. I... More

Me and a mate have just stayed at the Dalston House Hotel for an Easter weekend of beer, food, and football. From the first arrival til the last goodbye, the staff and family who run the place were very friendly and relaxed. Every effort is made to make you feel at home. The rooms are fine for the cost, clean... More
