I chose this establishment as it is most convenient for the Wildfowl and Wetland Centre. The B&B is in a quiet location in a beautiful area. The house and room was spotless with everything one could reasonably expect. Kevin was most attentive and very knowledgeable regarding the local area. He even directed me to ask for a particular table in... More

We're so pleased that the close proximity of the Wetlands Wildfowl Trust centre at Caerlaverock was a major factor that helped you decide to stay with us. Isn't the flight of birds down the River Nith and onto the mudflats at dusk a remarkable sight? Thank you very much for your kind compliments and we really do hope to see... More

A good quiet and rural position especially for water bird watchers. Welcoming, friendly and attentive hosts with good local knowledge. Our bedroom was spotless and had everything we needed even a lovely sun rise view towards Solway Firth a day after we had woken to fog! Breakfast was great and a good set up for the day. The property has... More

We arrived mid afternoon to a warm welcome. Visitors on a tour will appreciate probably the best guide to places to see and visit they are likely to find, both close by and much further afield. Kevin and Lynn are attentive hosts and know how to make a great Scottish breakfast despite being South African! No biltong but bacon, black... More

It was delightful having you stay and if we can possibly save some of our home-made biltong without eating it before you visit again, we'll certainly offer you some. Thank you so much for your positive feedback. More

A great place to stay if you need to stop near Dumfries and want somewhere a lot more pleasant. We had the double room, spacious, comfortable and quiet. Kevin and Lynn very hospitable and friendly, great breakfast and Tree Sparrows in the garden. Excellent spot for birders visiting WWT Caerlaverock to spend a day or two. Lovely breakfast, plenty of... More

We're so glad you enjoyed your stay and please remember to pre-arrange an evening meal with us if you prefer, should you decide to visit again. The nearest hotel is located in the adjoining village of Glencaple where most of our guests enjoy their evening meal as it is situated alongside the River Nith. More

My wife booked this B&B on the hoof whilst touring in Scotland and what a great choice, location was ideal, hosts very polite and informative, the room was very clean with good pillows and a good bed, breakfast was 1st class and large enough I needed to skip lunch, if in the area again I would be more than happy... The welcome and on going hospitality provided by Lynn & Kevin makes it very difficult to leave this charming accommodation. The location makes it an ideal winter venue for birdwatchers with tens of thousands of migatory geese and wildfowl and a superb centre for exploring the Dumfries and Galloway region at any time of year.

Hutton Lodge is a 19th century ex-school house at the hamlet of Bankend near the WWT Caerlaverock bird sanctuary on the Solway Firth, and a few miles south of Dumfries. It is a top class B&B in my opinion, and a credit to the friendly couple who run it. Good rooms, and good breakfasts in a pleasant dining room. I... More
