I agree with all the previous reviews ! This is a great little place to stay! It is owned by lovely couple who are very welcoming, kind and thoughtful. The breakfast is very lovely. The room was nicely decorated and clean with a lovely view. It was excellent value for money. I think if I were to criticise anything it... more

The Merlin has a fantastic location right next to the river and town centre, so you can walk around Dumfries, or easily access the road out to the Solway Coast and hills. We've stayed here before and will certainly be back again - the friendly owners, comfortable and spotless rooms made for a relaxing stay. And the enormous tasty breakfast... more

A nice friendly welcome greets you at the door and puts you at ease. The front rooms have one of the best views in town. From the front door, it's only steps to the banks of the lovely River Nith. The pedestrian bridge, just 20yds to the right of the house, takes you across the river and straight into shopping centre.... more

The title probably says it all! We stayed for three nights while visiting relatives in Dumfries to whom the Merlin had been recommended and would have no hesitation in visiting again. The location - right next to the river in a spot which is quiet yet only a couple of minutes walk to the town centre - is excellent. Overall,... more

Having enjoyed several visits to the Merlin, Dumfries, over many years, the standard of hospitality has never fallen below excellent. The location, room and welcome are 2nd to none. The breakfast, simply the best. Each time I return, it's like visiting family, I'll be returning without any doubt. more

Beatrice & Jim are the perfect hosts. Our room (Rm 2) overlooked the river and was extremely comfortable and fresh milk for a cuppa was a lovely homely touch. Breakfast was delicious and set us up for the day. I would highly recommend the Merlin for any visitor to Dumfries. more

Delightful room overlooking the river and within easy walking distance of the town centre. The room was lovely, very comfortable and tastefully decorated, with thoughtful touches such as tea and coffee making facilities with chocolates. The welcome was warm and friendly and the breakfast delicious. Would highly recommend The Merlin as a great place to stay. more
