We stayed in the cottages for a family wedding. I read the negative reviews and was concerned that I had made a mistake. I am eased to say that we were treated with the greatest hospitality. The cottages remind me my home towns and hamlets in Italy. If you like self catering. And you can live without a mobile phone,... More

We stayed here for a week in September. (Our original booking was changed to here by our booking agent). First impression was not good. Huge country house, our entrance was around the back. Entrance was covered in cobwebs which led to a unwelcoming corridor again with cobwebs and unvacumed carpet, dirty windows.... We were not impressed. Our " apartment" was... More

... it must be pretty good, really. Many reviewers take issue with anything less than perfection. Everyone including the staff seem to agree that a refurb is overdue but that doesn't make it less than a quiet, homely, natural venue which provides a great base for visiting The Borders. Whitmuir itself is perfectly adequate for the odd 'day in'. Its... More

If you like it quite and don't expect to much you'll be OK. For August it was worryingly under occupied. We stayed for 10 days in a cottage near the main house and would say it doesn't live up to the expectation or commercial photos. On our arrival there was no one on site, just an envelope pinned to the... More

Stay here every year - absolutely love it and so do the kids! The cottages have everything required for families. Access to swimming pool and games room is also good for families. The gardens are well kept and great for a stroll around. Staff are helpful and friendly.

We stayed at Whitmuir Hall for 6 nights. We stayed in the Melrose Cottage. The cottage itself was spacious and seemed to have all that we needed for a family stay. We did not know what time we would arrive so the owner had left a note at the door and left the keys inside the cottage. When booking we... More

We've stayed at Whitmuir Hall quite a few times, and it is good when there's quite a few of you staying together to all be in the one place. The grounds are lovely and so is the building, but I've noticed the last couple of times staying there it is definitely in need of some attention. We stayed in a... More

At first glance Whitmuir Hall is a nice looking old house. Inside its entrance hall you see some of its authentic character. Unfortunately however that's where it ends. The rooms could also do with some TLC. If you are afraid of spiders it is not the place for you. The house is set in a small amount of land which... More

Very disappointing, especially since I sustained an injury at the pool and one member of the staff behaved callously. Games room very disappointing. Sauna shut. Pool was shut after my injury. No phone signal and no-one on site so potentially hazardous if there were health and safety issues. Flat was freezing and the only fuel available cost us over 60... More

We stayed at Whitmuir Hall in October 2013. We only stayed for two or our four night break. There was a power cut, which I realise was no fault of the owners, however we were in complete darkness for almost an hour without seeing anyone or having any torch/candles. The apartment was cold and we ended up buying a halogen... More
