Visited for lunch and would agree with the review 'uninspiring'. Really the menu is overpriced for what is offered and the staff are a bit offhand. Either they cannot be bothered or we weren't the sort of clientele they want as we weren't made to feel particularly welcome.

Visited for afternoon tea, had the impression we were interrupting their time for standing around chatting. Felt unwelcome and their attitude was really that they were too good to be serving the likes of us! Took an age for our tea to appear and when it did it was uninspired, dry, stale tasting although the sandwiches were fresh at least.... More

Stopped for 1 night and pleasantly surprised how lovely the setting is for this old house. Warmly greeted and shown our room at the top of the house. Little dark due to small windows but fine for 1 night. The lounge area has great views of the hills and is very pleasant for a drink. Dinner was very good and... More

We attended for lunch recently and were disappointed at the overall experience. A 3-course lunch for £22.50 each. Could have made the whole lot for less than a tenner. Arrived to a not particularly warm welcome, taken upstairs to the dining room and told to sit "over there" with a wave of the hand. The waiting staff were cordial but... More

We had a second visit to the Tasty Sunday yesterday which sadly was a disappointment. It is a tasting menu with wines and free B&B thrown in. On our first visit in November 2014 the food was fantastic whereas yesterday it was not. We started with what I can only describe as thick beef cup a soup accompanied by garlic... More

My daughters wedding was held here and frankly, words can't be found to praise the staff enough. Unlike larger venues, we didn't have a 'wedding specialist' or 'event planner' assigned to us instead, the entire staff from owner to waitress appeared to become part of our family for the entire occasion providing a real comfort at what can often become... We arrived 18/07/2015 for a relaxing weekend break at the Cringletie House Hotel and got exactly that !! It's a stunning restored house in the borders of Scotland set in its own grounds with short garden walks a croquet lawn and fantastic views of the lowland hills all around. Everything about this place is really special the staff the food... More

My daughter graduated from university on Friday and she had asked that anything we do was close to the town she grew up in. We went up to ask if they could help, yes we can was the reply. And so on Friday we arrived at at the hotel and as good as their word a special day ensued. The... More

We stayed for one night DBB and I have to say Cringletie House far exceeded our expectations. Our room was on the top floor and was clean and comfortable with amazing views. The only slight issue was that the shower ran hot and cold but in the context that was a minor issue which did not detract from our stay.... More

loved the meal and ambience and friendly staff . Enjoyed a walk in the walled garden. Bit special . Would love to stay over at some point xx Surrounded by rolling hills and green pastures . Panoramic views . Although close to town felt as if we had escaped to the country . Very romantic and intimate dining room .... More
